Fallout 3 woe's..

How come, did you rush it through?

I'm in progress at the moment since August I think. I've just levelled up to 15. Although quite annoying at first it does grow on you and it's only when you feel the immense size of the game do you appreciate the work that's gone in to it. You have to feel the experience rather than just going out to get it ticked off the done list. If I had done just the main mission I would have been seriously disappointed but I'm exploring areas that don't necessarily have a quest associated to them.

As for install problems, I had to update both my video and sound card drivers to get it working.

Can only agree here, the reason I got so sucked into the game first time round I done all the small side quests and also just randomly explored before even heading to do the main quest line (which I find some of them a bit long winded, well mainly the gnr quests) this made the game such a good experience. Especially with all the different options you can choose and they effect they have on your overall gameplay. Mind you doing it this way, you find the later quests really easy because of the level and equipment you have and I still remember the feeling how easy it was to complete and there was no expansions at this time.

Now I'm playing again for second time from scratch and still loving it, actually I'm off to have a quick game now! :)

Also a bit on topic I had a few problems getting the game installed but just had to download all latest updates and a few updates for live gaming, but also I use latest drivers on vista x64 and have no problems.

Fallout 3 sucks bum the first 6-10 levels to be honest, I absolutely love the games but it is so slow and story wise it's quite dull at the start. Once you get the higher mission in DC it's great fun.

Especially with MMM marts mutant mod where basically there is thousands of guys in the area. Get FOMM aswell for lots of extra guns. I got texture packs aswell, can't remember which though.

Had this running rock solid stable on both a Core i7-965 & Q9450 both with GTX260-216 for 8-12 hours at a time without any crashes whatsoever and using either 4 or 8 cores with nothing disabled + max gfx @ 1920x1200.

When I had ATI cards (4850 + 4870) it was very unstable and crashed a lot. Those problems went away when I bought Nvidia GTX260-216's as replacements.

ATI make great hardware but their drivers for a lot of games are just not stable enough as they lack the driver resource teams Nvidia have and Nvidia also work closely with many developers in their TWIMTBP program which makes a huge difference to stability. ATI do make great hardware probably much better & much faster than NV but they have always had issues with drivers so if you want a more stable gaming experience go NV.

If you are still around mate, I am using a 260-216 on a Q9450, latest Nvidia drivers, Win 7 64bit RC (fully patched AFAIK) and I am getting texture corruption (Megaton ramp textures were coloured squares, transparent sections weren't, flashing blocks flicking up on the screen and vanishing like snow). Runs fine on my sons 8400GS based XP machine.

It also locks up solid every now and then, resulting in me having to kill it in task manager.

I have patched FO3, removed all AA, AAF but kept the high settings, dialled down the shadows. I am also running in XP SP3 compat mode.

Kinda sad as this is my second playthrough (first on Win7) and was really looking forward to it after getting the new video card.

I also find dogmeat a WOS and much prefered the Goul as my sidekick.

Oh loved the view from the top of one of the large satellite dished (North North West of the map IIRC). Seeing the landscape from the edge of one of those dishes is just fantastic.

Great game, just wish I could get it working without all the graphics glitches.

Cheers

Just for anyone who may be interested.

I did a clean install of the drivers (uninstalled all Nvidia stuff then rebooted) and opened up premission on the fallout3 directory (under program files (x32) or whatever it is) and under 'my games'. The game now runs at 1920X1400 at ultra high with only minor flashes now and then in small screen areas and no lockups at all. The game pauses every now and then but I guess that is the effects of maxing out the graphics.

Cheers

Just loaded win7 and reloaded FO3 .. make sure you are connected to the internet and the game should automatically let you know there are downloads available that patch the issues.
Once i downloaded the autopatch from Windows Live.. the game has run without issue. By the sounds of the grumbles aboutthis game as above I guess i am extremely lucky ..

Before it was patched etc I wrote to Bethesta to complain about the game not working they tried to imply it was not designed for a multi core processor .. and suggested I switched off 2 or 3 of the cores whilst playing .. PAH
Anyhow good luck
