Falmouth

I used to love going down there, although it's been a long time. My folks ran the Quayside Inn (real ale house) from about 1991 until 1995 or so.

I love Cornwall, lived in Truro for a few years, and my ex-girlfriend was from Mylor Bridge (a little village just up the river from Falmouth).

Agree with everything that's been said - fantastic place to live. Chilled out, no trouble from anyone, lovely scenery, nice people. Having the choice, I'd rather live in Truro again than Falmouth, it's just that much bigger - you'll spend half your time driving up the crammed A390 to Truro to do stuff if you live down in Falmouth.

I'd say it's not even quiet, I never had any trouble finding anywhere to go out. There's a big live music/band scene - places like the Blue Bar at Porthtowan (I think), the Watering Hole up at Perranporth. There's also a weekly jazz club down in St Ives if you're feeling arty and/or adventurous.

Music-wise in Falmouth itself, there's jam nights at a place called Gaslights (again, IIRC) in Falmouth itself, Gyllyngvase beach cafe puts bands on, indeed I played there myself a fair few times (Truro Girls High School 6th Form Leavers Ball being a highlight!). Loads of places have bands playing, and smaller bars tend to have cool DJs playing cool tunes, rather than cheesy crap.

Also, Cornwall has by far the highest concentration of hot 18-25 year old girls I've ever seen in any place, ever. So for that reason alone you'll have a great time!

I think im too old to do the whole crazy clubbing stuff anyway...So a quiet setting will be good for me. As long as theres easy access to the country and quiet coastal paths/beaches, ill be happy..

Is there a big supermarket or something near falmouth?

Also hows getting around? Am i gonna need to buy a car?
Id quite like to learn how to ride a motorbike while im down there..anyone know of any local schools?

There is at least one big supermarket in Falmouth with petrol station attached, I can't remember who it is but they are all much of a muchness as far as I'm concerned. A car would probably be quite a good idea but it isn't necessary, the girl I know who lives there doesn't have one - making friends with people who do have cars though will make your life a whole lot easier.

There's a massive ASDA on the Penrhyn bypass, only 5 minutes up the hill out of town.

And 2 tesco expresses in falmouth, i normally do my shopping those and get my meat and veg local. Its a nice town for local and different things. Like of really interesting coffee shops and cafe's. Really arty and nice.

Car is good, but the buses and trains are pretty good too, so?

Buy a longboard, you will realise why when you get here lol. Walking takes 15 mins to the other side of town. Skating takes 2. Simple!
