Falout 3 or New Vegas, which should I buy

Fallout 3 is a better game atm beause of the GOTY edition. Personally i prefer NV in terms of story though, plus the modding scene is moving much more quickly and has almost overtaken FO3 alredy despite being released years later.
 
I think NV is much more how a post-apocalypse world should feel. To me, FO3 was a bit cramped, with an encounter around every corner. I like walking through NV, scanning the horizon for bad guys and then creeping up (or sneaking past) people. I don't like the silly-ass mutants, either and NV has much less of them.

I have modded NV A LOT, though - something I didn't do with FO3, so it's definitely far more tailored to my playing preferences than FO3 was.
 
I'd probably say Fallout 3 mainly because of how you started in the Vault and then wonder into the world and the unique atmosphere you feel on the first play which makes it a little unfair to New Vegas since I didn't feel that again.

However, I'm playing through some of the New Vegas DLC and enjoying it a lot.
 
NV hands down.

I played NV first actually, then played FO3 GOTY right through to the end.

Think tbh Im just sick of fallout now though, too much bloody walking!
 
Another thing to cosider is that you can not play after the main quest in New Vegas without mods!

I would actually say that New Vegas feels slightly more cramped than 3. The World space is actually a fair bit smaller when you consider the mountains and river
 
I preferred 3 to NV, mainly because it felt more open. Especially at the start of the game, NV tries to direct you away from certain areas - and, if you persist and and get there anyway, you can become incredibly overpowered (like having a Laser RCW at level 4).
 
quite strange seeing the range of opinions on here :p personally, i prefered 3, but get whichever most appeals to you now, then get the other later, their defiantly both worth a buy :)
 
wow, wasn't quite expecting this to be so hotly contested.

gonna do the sensible thing and see what price sunday brings.
if it's low enough i might just take them both.

Bottom line is that they are very similar in terms of gameplay.

I have only played through New Vegas once unmodded, but i was very impressed. I felt that the unfocussed story suited the game much more than FO3.

There is very little in it though.
