False readings?

Hi,

I've had an overclock on my E6600 running for a long time now (or at least I thought I had). Have just come to check it out using Everest and I find its not running at 3.5GHz (x9 multiplyer) that I thought it was. It says 2334.1 MHz with a multiplyer of x6 instead.

I've check using another application - CPU-Z and this reports the same thing yet in the BIOS it states x9 multiplyer and 3.5GHz. I have tried resetting the multiplyer in the BIOS and then changing it back and this does solve the problem in windows.

Anyone any ideas on this? What is the true reading?

It's speedstep cutting the multi to x6 to save power.

It's in the 'Advanced' BIOS settings section i think - think it's called cpu enhanced halt (c1e). Just needs to be disabled and you're good to go.

Hi GT,

I've just set the EIST to disable but it keeps switching when I go into windows between x6 and x9. Do I need to disable C1E too?

I'd give it a go. I've pretty much disabled every power saving option (EIST and C1E included) so you could always try it.

I found this quote regarding C1E so i think it might sort you out:

"Intel's new C1E halt state is also invoked by the HLT command, but it turns down the entire CPU's clock frequency (via multiplier control) and voltage in order to work its mojo. This more robust halt state requires significantly less power than the old C1 implementation."

Hope this gets it running as you want it. :)
