can anybody recomend me a quiet 120 fan to replace in a x-qpack as one with it is a bit noisy what about one of these
Akasa AK-183-L2B Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin (FG-024-AK)

ive heard nexus tru silence ( or somehting like that) are supposed to be up there with the best. and the silenex fans claim to be 11Db... but i think thats the was they measure em !
have a gander HERE too. on the second page they have a pretty simple table with tons of fans on :)

The Akasa amber fan you listed on offer of the week is VERY good, especially when volt modded. It is what I would go for :)

Im getting a couple of nexus fans tomorrow hopefully, ill do an ear test and see which is quieter, the nexus or the akasa ambers at both 5 and 12v and post it here for you.

The nexus' are sposed to be the best, but personally i don't think are as good value as the ambers, i have 4 120mm and one 80mm ambers in my case. Even on 100% they are quiter than my tagan PSU. The thing i think makes them noisy is when they have to push/pull through something fine. The front grill/HD cage at the front of my Coolermaster centurion 530 makes the front one pretty noisy which is annoying. Are very good fans - much quiter than my 120mm delta

First off sorry it too so long but i finally recieved the two nexus fans this morning after mayhem with the corier.

So, the 120mm fans. Using the tried and tested ear and hand method :p (ear to test sound and hand to test airflow) shows that at 12v the akasa is the noisier of the two although not by much whatsoever but it does seem to push out a lot more air. At 5v the same is true and both fans are just about completly silent. The akasa pushing a little more air again. When I put the nexus in my case and put the side back on it was a LOT quieter at 12v than the akasa at the same voltage but it did cause my cpu to increase in temperature by about 3 degrees because of the decreased airflow through the heatspreader (the fan went on an evo 120 cpu cooler)

For the 92mm fans almost the exact same thing occurs, the akasa pushes more air out at both 5 and 12v and is ever so slightly noisier than the nexus.

One thing worth noting though is that the pitches of the two fans are slightly different. The akasa's have a higher pitch than the nexus' which could actually be the difference in noise i heard as the nexus didnt seem to whine as much.

I think for all round quiet computing the Akasa is a better bet as it is only slightly noisier than the nexus but is a lot cheaper and pushes more air. For a HTPC setting the nexus may be the better bet as long as the components are pretty cool running. This would mean you could probably get away with passive cooling for everything and a single 120mm nexus as a case fan and not be able to hear a thing

Hope this helps and isnt too late and helps you choose. :)

Be a little bit careful about replacing that 120mm. It is noisy, but it moves a LOT of air (105cfm iirc) and it's the only thing that keeps the HDD cool (try taking the case cover off an watch the HDD temp rocket).

I actually replaced mine with 2 AC Ryan fans in a push:pull arrangement.

SilenX are also good.

Remember the tight budget people, Ambers are by far the best value fans out there, they are the best price v performance v noise ones you can get.
