Ok, so i have this fan controller (well, i have 3 of them...):

Great bit of kit, but i am getting a little bored of blue led's/cathodes/water, and would like to change colour, but to do this fully, i would need to change the led's in this fan controller.

Is this possible, as it looks like the led's are built straight into the pcb, and i'm also finding it rather difficult to get the plastic part off from on top of the led's.

Your help would be appreciated.

if they are surface mounted i highly doubt your be able to remove them, but if they are like the standard dome headed LEDS just unsoldern them. and stick the new ones on.

Any chance of you putting some pics up?

You can desolder surface mounted ones and solder on 'normal' leds. Ive done it in the past. However, it is difficult, and you will have to bodge and bend the new leds to get the direction right.

Not surface mount then (took me ages to realise i had to take the little knobs off to remove the plastic)

I was thinking green tbh, and the lcd screen has a choice of colours, so i'll stick with this one and think about doing some soldering :D

i have one of these. about a week after i got it the display started going completely mental, just flashing random segments on the display. got annoyed with it so i started dragging a screwdriver across the legs on the big chip inside. small spark --> working display (its been fine ever since :D)

that was a few years ago though.
