Hi,

Considering getting a fan controller for use with my first build. I'm totally new to this and was wondering what fans these controllers are typically used to control? Is it just case fans, or are they used to control fans on other components, such as CPU or gfx card? For case fans, do they look after both exhaust, intake, both, nieither???

As you can tell i'm completely clueless, so any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Jubbly

You can control almost any fan in your system with a controller, its really upto you which ones.

I have used controllers in the past for my CPU and case fans, dont tend to bother with the GPU fan, its never really been noisy enough to bother me :)

Just a word of warning, some LED fans won't work on a fan controller/rheobus as they need to be powered by a molex instead.

If it is a molex power supply to the fan you can get adapters to convert to 3 pin.
The fans i'm talking about have a molex out and 3-pin out. I tried running it via the 3 pin alone and it wouldn't work. I'll give a converter a go.

Thanks Bry. Could that include PSU fan aswell?

I don't think there are any PSUs that allow external control of it's fans, could be wrong though. there are models that control their speed themselves though to keep noise to a minimum.
