I have 3 case fans on my pc, 2 120mm at the front and rear.
and 1 90mm fan on the side
currently i am using a special fan cable that uses the PWM connector on the mother board to controll them, obvilously as the cpu is used more they speed up to cool it.

How ever the side fan is rather noisy even though it is a quiet design.
My options are to place a switch on it to enable only during gaming when i only really need it

or

get a fan controller to control all of the fans manualy.

Which seems the best option??
 
temps are ideling around 35 for the cores
its a red wing fan which i got cz it low noise, the noise is from the fan filter which i have to have cz my uni room is so dusty my case fills up with dust in a few weeks.
Having spent the money on a fan dnt wnt 2 just ditch it and dnt wnt a large ugly hole in the side of my case
 
What software are you using to control the fans?

Speedfan?

With speedfan you could set the max speed of the side fan to 50% and that would quieten it down and still allow you to use it. See how badly that affects your temps.

EDIT: Ah does only one of the fan plugs on the mobo allow control? Then I guess this would not work. In that case you could hook it up to a molex so that it runs all the time but do the 7V trick to slow it down and keep it quiet.

im looking for a simple fan controller too, but as i have a door on the front of the pc it makes fitting more tiresome as the knobs all stick out to far!

i like the look of the Sentry LX tho, it looks flush fitting?
might be a bit prcey for me:(

Been looking at fan controllers and considered the akasa and the zalman mfc1, have 6 fans in total in my case. 2 x 140mm intake, 2 x 120mm exhaust and 2 x 120mm on the cooler. The zalman i see has 6 channels opposed to 4 on the akasa, though my 2 cooler fans are ran via pwm. Both are really nice looking units.
 
iv un plugged my side fan and have seen no increase in temperature so for general work it seems it isnt really needed much.
Think that having the 2 case fans controled by the PWM is very good as they r going at low speed in normal use.

Will just solder a nice looking switch for my side fan

Right now need to look for a PSU unit so off to the other forums, thanks guys

I found the redwings to be pretty noisy, Comparing it to an Akasa Apache excellent silent fans, Worth the premium.

A side fan is only really useful to supply a hot running GPU with cool air.
