Is it at all feasible to ban all fanboyism from this subforum?

There is never any need to compare Sony to Microsoft and it always ends up in arguments of one kind or another.

360 or PS3 threads are locked most of the time so why let it continue in other threads?

It has become more apparent now during E3 and I guess it mey die down but it's something that there is no need for.

To define fanboyism though... maybe not word it like that but ban comparing MS and Sony and the arguments, or discussions, over which has done better or which is currently better as they always get heated.

A simple rule set up will drastically reduce it.

It's not going to happen. :( As long as theirs two or more consoles there'll be fanboys.

Without justifying your purchase to those that have the other how can you be sure you made the right choice?

Just buy both then look down on them. :p

I thought the whole point of forums is to voice an opinion. Sure there are a few arguements every now and then. But seriously you cannot just "ban" all MS v Sony comments.

I personally have no preference to either company. But I still like to compare.

The threads with such a purpose seem to be locked on sight.

Thats not really what he's saying though anyways. Its the blatant blindly lead fanboys that generally end up causing arguements. Like through the E3 thread, During the MS conference if you look, there wasnt a single comment made by Sony fans that was derogatory, But as soon as the Sony show started, the Snide comments were all over the place, and completely un necassary, These are the same people that pop up in most threads with needless blatant fanboyish crap, because for some reason they find the need to push 1 company over the other, whether they have a real genuine reason to or not.

No. Fanboys think like this...

"Its only on the console I own so its better and what ever is on the other console sucks and I must make it my life long dream to convince myself of this by trolling threads."

I'm not a fanboy. I've owned all 3 consoles. I made a choice to only keep my PS3 as it has more games which interest me more.

It's been around since forever - the cavemen of the west used to declare their kind of spears were better than the other cavemen of the east. It took an ice age to put a stop to it.

I don't think a lot can be done about 'fanboyism' but they way in which some people express their opinions on the matter certainly could be.

Its just comments like this that can derail a thread. The thread this comment was posted in wasn't even about 360 games.

Sony are getting OWNED by Xbox360 at E3, so much better stuff which is coming out for 360

Comparing them is fine, it's when one party blindly refuses to see another viewpoint or when a comment, like the above, is made for no reason and in no relevance to the thread.

I prefer my PS3 lol.

Some of it can be funny but the comments made in the E3 thread by a select few were just getting annoying and retarded. Like someone was banging on about the size of the Sony presentation screen lol, just ridiculous.

Good job on not understanding my post. :p

Wiki to the rescue. :D

Fanboy is a term originating in America, used to describe a male who is highly devoted and biased in opinion towards a single subject or hobby within a given field.

Fanboy-ism is often prevalent in a field of products, brands or universe of characters where very few competitors (or enemies in fiction, such as comics) exist. An example is the market for CPUs for PCs, where AMD and Intel together hold a market share of 99.6% (as of Q1 2009)[5]. In this market, users of home computers realistically only have a choice between two brands, and hence, a fight over which is better easily ensues. In this field, an "Intel fanboy" prefers CPUs made by Intel, and might agressively defend their supposed superiority compared to the other brand(s), be sceptic or in denial about negative reviews of the product, and exert a high level of brand loyalty. The same brand war ensues when comparing video card brands Nvidia and ATI, which together dominate the video card market.

The term originated in comic book circles, to describe someone who was socially insecure and used comics as a shield from interaction, hence the disparaging connotations.[citation needed] Fanboys are often experts on minor details regarding their hobbies, such as continuity in fictional universes, and they take these details extremely seriously. The term itself is often used in a derogatory manner by less serious fans of the same material. Nevertheless, self-labeling usages of the term have been noted; in the songs of the fannish parody musician Luke Ski, many characters proudly consider themselves fanboys.

The term is usually used by and applied to people in their teens or 20s; an age group which is typically found pursuing geeky hobbies obsessively. Within this group, common objects of deference for fanboys are TV shows, movies, anime, cars, video game consoles, video games, music, operating systems, trains, home computers (in earlier decades), MMORPGs, ISPs, software and computer hardware companies.

The term fangirl can be used to describe a female member of a fandom community (counterpart to the masculine "fanboy"). Fangirls may be more devoted to emotional and romantic aspects of their fandom, especially shipping. However, it is commonly used in a derogatory sense to describe a girl's obsession with something, most commonly a male teen idol or an aspect of Japanese pop culture. Fangirl behavior can vary in intensity. On one end of the scale are those that, while harboring a crush on a particular actor or character, are perfectly capable of understanding that the fulfilment of the crush is never going to happen. On the other end are the girls who are said to be obsessive in their claims on a fictional character, even fighting with other fangirls over who 'owns' the character in question. Fangirl behavior can fall anywhere in this spectrum, but the closer someone is believed to be towards the obsessive end, the more derogatory the use of the term 'fangirl' to describe them is perceived to be. Fangirls of all persuasions are believed to be the largest contributors to fanfiction websites, sometimes disregarding the canon storyline of their fandom or altering it to fit either their own favored romantic pairings; or themselves into the continuity (termed self-insertions or Mary Sues).[citation needed]
