Hi all, building a system with my existing Coolermaster Stacker, now looking at cooling options and need some help with a choice of fan and fan controller.

After years of going for all out power and cooling and not paying attention to the noise level of a system I am now concentrating on silence.

I've bought the Zalman ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller, Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler to go with the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600.

So I'm after quiet fans, but I guess I will need the ability to speed them up and down according to the ambient temperature in my study? So with that in mind is it better to go for high RPM fans that I can back down with the fan controller? Or start off with the low and back them down even more?

Which fans would be recommended along with which controller?

Thanks.

It's certainly possible to get fast fans and run them slowly... but for the most part, I think quiet fans are designed to run quietly and noisy, powerful fans are designed to run noisily and powerfully - the fan blades have different angles and that kind of thing.

These fans are supposed to be pretty good, though a bit pricey.

For a controller i would recomend the sunbeam rheobus. Old version has 4 channels and new one has 6. Each capabale of silly watts....20w per channel iirc.

Fans can be controlled from zero to max not just a high and low range. No flashy displays but def a quality piece of gear :)
