I'm about to take the plunge and buy a new system which will be built around an Antec P280. This case has 3 'DuoCool' fans as standard (2 top, 1 rear all exhaust) and space for an additional 4 fans. There is also an onboard fan controller offering a choice of 'Lo' and 'Hi' speeds for the standard fans.

Questions:

  • Could I replace the 2 top fans with some quieter fans?
  • Could I then add 2 quiet fans to the front and then control all 4 fans via a fan controller? Any recommendations? Is this one any good?

I'm already intending to replace the rear one with an Antec h2o CPU cooler as I'm hoping to keep the noise levels down, is this a reasonable way to do it?

The all in one water coolers are really good for keeping temps low and you can also change the fan that comes with it if you want a one a bit quieter..... There are loads of fans out there designed to be quiet while keeping it cool such as these

With regards to the controller yes you would be able to contorl all four fans, one thing to bear in mind is that when I was checking out the reviews for them including the one you suggested the viewing angles are generally pretty poor if that would be an issue for you.... that controller in particular is pretty good as it has a semi-auto mode where you set the minimum rpm of the fans and then at what temp they should go higher

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I was thinking of Scythe Gentle Typhoons but the Akasa is apparently fractionally noisier whilst being cheaper and moving more air so that's a benefit :)
