OK I'm doing the "ESPNScrum" 6 Nations fantasy rugby thing at work. My rugby knowledge is patchy at best so I would like to beseech the gestalt OcUK intelligence to help me pick an invincible team. Rules are as follows:

Selecting your team couldn't be easier. Your team must consist of 15 players as follows:

Three front-row forwards (FR)
Two second-row forwards (SR)
Three back-row forwards (BR)
One scrum-half (SH)
One fly-half (FH)
Two centres (C)
Three outside backs (OB)
One of these players is then selected as your designated kicker. This player will be the only member of your team who will earn you points by successfully kicking penalties or conversions. (All players in your team can gain points from drop goals, not just the designated kicker).

Player positions are classified in the player list. Your players can be chosen from all players from each category, irrespective of their real-life position (i.e. you can select three hookers as your front-row forwards if you like!)

However, you can only have a maximum of four players from each nation, so be sure to choose wisely.

Points scored as follows:

Scoring Points
Your players score points for your Fantasy Rugby team based on their performances in Six Nations Championship matches as follows:

Event Points
Full Appearance (player starts and finishes the game) 3 pts
Part Appearance (player starts but doesn't finish the game) 2 pt
Substitute Appearance (player comes on as a substitute) 1 pt
Try 5 pts
Assist (last pass, charge down or kick to the try scorer) 3 pts
Penalty Kick or Conversion (designated kicker only) 1 pt
Drop Goal (all players) 1 pt
Yellow Card -1 pt
Red Card -2 pts
Official Man of the Match 5 pts

I've got as far as picking Adam Jones of Wales, because he's basically a massive grizzly bear masquerading as a human, which must be an advantage for playing rugby.

Toying with the idea of picking Jonny Wilkinson as he's pretty much the only current England player I've actually heard of.

Any help or suggestions for further picks would be much appreciated :)

PF

OK I've managed to cobble together a team basically from reading up on who the starting XIs will be and based on the fact that France / Ireland are the two best teams and Eng Wales the next best two:

J Hayes (IRE)
A Jones (WAL)
C Healy (IRE)
S Shaw (ENG)
AW Jones (WAL)
T Dusautoir (FRA)
I Harinordoquy (FRA)
L Moody (ENG)
M Parra (FRA)
J Wilkinson (ENG) KICKER
R Flutey (ENG)
B O'Driscoll (IRE)
A Rougerie (FRA)
S Williams (WAL)
T Bowe (IRE)

No idea if this is any good or not. From what I can gather this Bowe guy is meant to be pretty good. Picked Dusautoir and O'Driscoll as they are both Captains of their respective countries, so should mean they both play if nothing else; also read somewhere that Flutey and Shaw are decent players.

So how's it look? Any glaring omissions? Anyone in there who might not start/play?

I'd want Chabal in there, and probably Ronan O'Gara as well, given that Ireland are likely to retain the trophy and a lot of points will come from him. Shaw is a good pick.

Ignore that about O'Gara, you can't have him and Wilko (you can on another fantasy rugby game I found).

Nm Chabal has been ruled out of the opener due to injury.

Here's my team:

FR W Servat FRA
FR G Jenkins WAL
FR J Flannery IRE
SR S Shaw ENG
SR AW Jones WAL
BR Ma Bergamasco ITA
BR I Harinordoquy FRA
BR D Wallace IRE
SH P Stringer IRE
FH J Wilkinson ENG
C B O'Driscoll IRE
C M Bastareaud FRA
OB S Williams WAL
OB M Tait ENG
OB A Masi ITA

Here's my updated team with O'Gara at FH:

FR A Jones WAL
FR C Healy IRE
FR G Jenkins WAL
SR S Shaw ENG
SR AW Jones WAL
BR T Dusautoir FRA
BR I Harinordoquy FRA
BR L Moody ENG
SH M Parra FRA
FH R O'Gara IRE
C R Flutey ENG
C B O'Driscoll IRE
OB T Bowe IRE
OB U Monye ENG
OB J Malzieu FRA

I personally think you'll miss out by not having Bergamasco in there as points for Italy will come from him, but that all depends on how they play. I would also want Tait in given England's current setup, still - it's all based on luck :).

Can you change out some players between matches? It was thought that Sexton would start in place of O'Gara, but he received a dead-leg in training and is out of the Italy game.

I've just picked my team on there. For some reason it wouldn't let me pick any more Welsh players, I guess there's a limit on how many you can choose from each country but hey, it's 4:09 am and I haven't really read anything, I'm ready for bed actually! I'll probably wake up in the morning and change everything. I selected O'Gara to take the kicks, if I hadn't had him in my team I probably would have picked Paterson at full back and had him kick them instead.

Sheridan is injured and Chabal has been ruled out from the first game.

Bugger, better go and change them now then, typical! I knew I should've done some reading first! :p

Made a few changes, Mauro Bergamasco plays on the openside but I don't think that matters for the purpose of this fantasy 6 nations.
