Also players like Terry ain't worth the money, why not just buy Gallas, or Cole (when he goes)? He'll probably score identical points over a season to Terry but will save you half a mill to a mill to go somewhere else.
Soon as nearly all of defenders points are from clean sheets I always try and save money in defence by buying non-star players from teams with decent defences. This especially applies to finding 2 cheapo defender subs.
I agree, at 8m I reckon Berbatov could be a great buy.

OK, so if they ship a load of goals, then you will lose a few points, but in FF leagues you have to take risks. It's better to finish 1st or 10th than 5th or 6th.
And of course the most important thing is to be sure that all your players will play every week. A few years ago I got burned by taking Bergkamp (he was cheap) who didn't play in quite a few matches.
