I need to change the battery in a GTC key fob, how do I open it and when successful will a battery off the shelf fit?

Thanks.

Its the B side that pops off and its a normal c2032 or whatever it is battery if i remember correctly.

Awesome, I've got my very own FAO thread :).

Assuming that it is the later style key (with the metal surround rather than the all plastic one):

You'll need a small, flat blade screwdriver. You then want to use the blade to prize the area either side of the plastic bit that holds the key ring, as per pic:

You don't need to muller it, but a bit of force is required. The back part of the key with the wings should be released.

Try and keep the plastic ring that connects the key ring to the key itself actually in the key. It's not the end of the world if it comes out, but it's fiddly to get back in sitting right if the key is worn.

When refitting "hook" the top bit of the cover into the key then position the bottom part to clear the little plastic "ring". Once you're happy apply a little bit of force and it should click into place

The battery size will be a CR2032.

I've made it sound more difficult than it actually is.

Edit: Mark's stolen my thunder :p.

Unfortunately it's not my car, I look after a collection of cars. I would post pics but modern mobiles phones make it such a struggle to turn on thr pc.

Diamondmark, you start from the end the keys dangle from, correct?

Iv just pulled mine to bits for you, you start where the key joins the keyring but be careful.

The battery is right on top.

Josh is the man with the picture though!! :)

What the hell? It has a battery!?

On a Conti GT

Yea on my next one im getting fusion power :D Batteries are for peasants!

I was thinking it would be more along the lines of the BMW keys where the battery never requires replacement because its charged up when its in the ignition. You cant even get at it.

Since when do you put a conti GT key into the ignition though....

Sort of the same arrangement with the bentley keys, but yeah it is a bit pointless that it easily flicks out like it does. Might as well be hidden ala mercedes.

Thats VW for you its only a Golf key in hiding really.

One of mine is broke, when i get that replaced Bentley can kiss my arse for a grand and i will get a VW one programmed.

I do all the time. But then again, I'm a bit thick and never really learned how to use it properly.

Still not entirely sure to this day how you can switch the ignition off (fully, with steering lock) by just using the button. Usually with a bit of shouting and button mashing it sorts itself out.

SO much quicker and easier to use the key.

I think the early keys for GTs are literally the bog standard VAG keys with a plastic Bentley logo glued to the back :D.
