On other forums I am a member of, if you mouseover the thread title a small popup appears containing the first few lines of the post. It's a very handy feature because you can see what the thread is about without actually opening it.

Would there be any possibility of that being activated here?

Personally that feature gives me a headache.

I'm in Firefox 2.0 and hovering over thread titles on that forum does nothing.



The title does that for me. If the thread reads: "aftershave help" I have a feeling it's going to be a thread about aftershaves.

You know yourself that thread titles are not always accurate!

Takes less time to click, read, and hit back than to hover and wait for the box to pop up

I disagree. I'd like to see it implemented and would be grateful for a Mod reply to tell me if it'd be considered.

Yeah, really not a fan of forums that do that. I just find that if my mouse is over a link accidentally and it displays something, it blocks out everything else that I might be reading. Like links in news articles where they try to sell you things when you go over them. Annoying!

It does not blank out everything else. It's one line that barely covers the link to the thread it relates to.

This would cost a lot more in bandwidth per month so I can't see it ever being enabled.

It would also increase MySQL load which would make the forums slower for everyone.

How would it? You're not thinking it through. If people mouseover but then don't view the thread, surely the bandwidth used will be significantly less?

So it could actually save bandwidth!

Yes but alternatively the mouse-over could tempt more people into the thread... it's swings and roundabouts

I'd like Mark to consider it - he pays for the forums after all. Is there any way one of the Dons could point him towards this thread please?
