Right my Nokia 6233 has v3.70 software installed. I've phone up my not-so-local Nokia service centre, and they've told me they can put v4.91 on.

Now I'm wondering what this software has, that's better than v3.70? From what I've read, it totally transforms the phone making it MUCH more stable.

Ideally I'd have liked to see all the improvements in the software, from v3.70 up until v4.91.

Another thing - although the Nokia site doesn't list the 6233, I have heard mostly positive reports of success when using Nokia Software Updater to update the phones. Just wondering if anybody with a CA-53 cable and 6233 could confirm this for me, please?

I ordered a cable from fleabay to do the job, and it should be here by this week. I'm hoping to determine for myself, if I can update the 6233's software, to v4.91. If so, then I'm happy. If not, then it's Royal Maid: Special Delivery time. :(

Looking forward to the responses.

Edit: Damn, wrong forum! :mad::o

Are you having any probs with software you got at the moment? If not dont worry - the Nokia software updater will suport the 6233 soon as the 6234 has just appaired - its basicly the same phone!

To be fair, I do find the software quirky sometimes.

I've heard the v4.91 improves the 6233 to no end, including improving it's battery life, and making it more responsive.

I suppose I'll just have to see what this cable does for me - if nothing, then Royal Maid it is. :(

I emailed Nokia yesterday morning to see if there was any news on when the firmware will be available via the NSU; no reply yet. I wonder why they've got the 6234 firmware out before the 6233?

Because theres only one version of the 6234 its only vodaphone... there are multiple versions of the 6233 for each network - so they got to relase something that works on everything!

If you read the Nokia discussion forums, you'll find a LOT of people are not getting much joy from Nokia.

Roll on tomorrow, hopefully the Royal Maid will be along with my cable.

Right I got the CA-53 cable for my 6233.

Plugged it in, let XP does it's thing with the drivers (bearing in mind I already have the Nokia driver software installed, so no need to download and update those).

Plugged cable into phone, PC picks it up. Run software updater with little hope...update is available etc, doesn't tell me what version of software is out though. I proceed to update, regardless.

About 24mb of downloading later, and 5-10 minutes of anxious waiting as the updater sent the update to the phone...Houston, we have lift off! :D:cool:

Phone is now updated to v4.91 - all thanks to a £4 cable. Best of it is, I didn't have to restore my settings, ringtones or messages - it managed the update without losing my settings.

Shame the cable doesn't work with my Nokia 5140, or I'd try to update that too. :(

Anyway, here is a screenshot after the update is complete - for those who doubt me.

Same here! They must have been waiting for you to receive your cable! ;)
Out of interest, can any v4.91 software users tell me if they can send pictures now?

Just tried to send a picture, and the phone white-screened on me...at least it kept the settings.

No problems here (so far!).
I did this:
Menu > Messaging > Create Message > Multimedia > Insert > Image > Open Gallery > Memory Card > Images > Scroll to picture > Insert > BOOM (white screen, then back to wallpaper with "Go to, Menu, O2" on the bottom.

:/:mad:

I followed the steps above, no crash.

Have you rebooted the phone since upgrading the firmware?

Numerous times, and even tried re-flashing the phone...:(

after reading this thread, i also ordered a cable from auction site and have flashed my 6233 to 4.91

so far so good, but the cable i have is very cheaply made, not very strong and one of the plastic prongs has already snapped off :(

anyone know what the official changelog is for 4.91?

O2 sent my phone off for 'repair' on 19/01/07. Got it back on 29/01/07, and they still hadn't sorted my problem out - I blame the blob for not describing my problem correctly!

One minute in the O2 phone shop after telling the lady to reset my phone (because I heard it's a fix for that particular problem two days after I sent my phone off) the problem is fixed!:mad:
