Rich, sorry mate but leapfrogged you again.
Seems I have my full farm crunching again, although it seems that my mATX setup on the Q6600 isn't ideal, I'm testing it at 3.2Ghz and 1.41V at the moment but the weather is making it a bit toasty.
What I've seen is that it will Ortho fine for a few hours, but FAH will sometimes just sit there for three hours not moving to the next % done, then the client will say something like "Nothing done for 3 hours, terminating" or something like that.
Its only happened twice so far but that was at 3.0Ghz and stock volts. So what do I do? Up the voltage and clock it higher!!
Temps are not too bad compared to what people are getting in bigger better ventilated systems with bigger heatsinks, I'm hitting 70 degrees at 3.2Ghz under full load. But vdroop on these things is horrific. Not sure if its the PSU (400W) or the mobo but that could be affecting it.
So I've got a 500W Zalman and a Asus coming next week which I'll be testing to see if it makes any difference. Also 2x1GB 8500+ RAM so I can take the pressure off the 6400+ I've got and also rule out that 4 sticks of 512MB are worse than 2 sticks of 1GB
At the end of the day I'm being a bit silly really, this is my VMWare server box and I shouldn't really be messing about with it.. but hey.. where would be the fun in that?
