hey guys...
okay i love the thermaltake soprano. but theres no chance i can get up close and personal with one so id like some information.

like most of my stuff this case will be customised to the nth degree with artwork. i mean its gonna have murals inside and out, places where you cant see them, EVERYWHERE !!.

so if anyone owns one, could you guys tell me :

1. is the clear plastic in the window easy to remove / how is it attached

2. how big is the space between the face of the case and the chasis ( if you took the FRONT off, how muich space is there between the metal front od the case ansd the plastic of the face plate.)

3.how wide is the inside of the case ( mobo to glass)

4. can the front cover be un-hinged / removed ( for painting / polishing) without damaging it ?

as i said theres no way i can see on of these cases in the flesh , so any info would be fantastic !!!
cheers guys !
Rick

Well the soprano is the same as the tsunami so.....
The side window is held in place with platic expanding clips like the things that hold heatsinks onto pcb's

You might only get about 2-3cam between the front of the chassis and the plastic drive faceplates.Put it this way my floppy drive sticks out an inch to sit flush with the FRONT of the plastic fasia

Roughly 17.5Cm just under 7" from the pcb of my mobo to the metal piece that the side sits against so take a conservative roughly 17.5cm as it will be smaller gap with the side on.

The front cover comes off by unscrewing the hinges so its pretty easy, the soprano doesnt have any front lights so you dont have the cable i have in the way.

Hope thats enough mate.

Have one myself and only bought it becouse I needed a case quickly and it was cheap - don't know if you realise but it looks a lot better than it feels; the front door is so cheap and tacky to the touch and the 'screwless' hard-drive and expansion card clips are a total joke.

Would suggest you have a proper look at one before commiting to buy.

Well the tsunami is better and i still fell the plastic should not be on the case at the front but the metal door on my case feels fine.Makes me glad ive not got those HDD clips rather a proper cage with thumbscrews.

i agree with that, i had the misfortune of having to build a rig in one of these at work, it was not a pleasant experience. the front is extremely tacky and plasticky, and feels incredibly flimsy. the screwless things for PCI slots barely hold things in place. and it just has an overall feel of 'cheapness'.

I have avoided this thread until now; for reasons some people might pick up on.

Anybody got any real world pictures of this case?

Also how old were the ones that you used; as I have only used a very old one when they were brand new released, and things may have actually got worse

For £40 its fine for what you get. What else do i want from a case....i dont want it to cook my breakfast. It holds the parts, looks good,is quiet and is about half the weight of my old case.

The soprano was my choice until i seen the tsunami so i know all the differences.

wow guys THANKS
that info is great. !!
well im not too concerned about the cheapieness of it, i do know what you mean though !
this ill more than likely be sorted :)
the window and PCB to window were the critical things tbh
and 17.5cm is fantastic !!

im gonna ring every PC shop in the land to see if i can find one in RL. but that the primiary info i needed.

i got 3 birthdays and valentines day within a week. so needless to say ill not be getting it any time soon :P lol

thanks again guys.

btw... whats soo bad about the pci slots ?

Rick

is it one of those strips that secures all the cards at once? that you place on and pull length ways to secure.
is there any other way of securing them ?
would drilling and tapping be an option ?
and... does it not hold them secure into the slots, or stop them from 'drooping' down , or both ?
thanks

they have an individual plastic clip for each slot. and when they're in the cards tend to wobble a bit, they'll probably stay in the slots, but id just be happier if it were more secure.
