Far Cry 2 - opinions?

I loved every minute of it.
It must be one of the most hated games around here, but I got a great kick out of it. Personally I can only recommend it.
The heaviest criticism was levelled at the enemies respawning too soon, and perhaps they did, although it never disturbed me. It does seem a bit OTT to condemn it just because of that.
The good about the game outweighed this by far, but I'm afraid everybody seemed to be so hung up about that one point, nobody seemed to be able to look beyong it.
Then again, I never liked Crysis or Far Cry 1.

I've only played it on the 360 and some of the problems I had with it probably don't exist on the PC version (like ridiculously long save/load times). The best things I can say about Far Cry 2 are that the environments look incredible and the gunfights are amongst the best I've ever experienced in a game.

The worst thing (regardless of platform) is, yes, the constantly respawning enemies. That is very, very annoying, at least to me. Oh, and the silly malaria mechanic I don't know why they bothered with that.

I thought it was okay, not fantastic, not like far cry 1 but it was still better than many other games. As said, the respawning enemies at each checkpoint just got annoying but I found there was a lot of fun to be had with the sniper rifle!

I did find it a bit repetitive but maybe I didnt put enough time into it. I would recommend the game, but only at a sale price, like it was on the steam xmas sale couple weeks back.

It's nice looking, large area to explore, I got a lot of hours of gaming out of it.

But its repetitive, all the missions are the same. If you've done one arms dealer mission you've done them all, effectively. You'd think you could escape the enemy in a brand new jeep, you can't they will catch you and you will have to get out and fight.

The games not terrible but it's not far cry 1, pity because its strong in most areas, except crucially gameplay.

If I'd known what I know now, I'd have waited and bought it at sale price rather than on release at full price.

not a whole lot more to add.
very nice looking, but its just a dull game, far too repetitive, just dosnt hold my attention at all.

Had potential, but there were far too many things wrong with it. Getting killed from miles away during a stupidly long mission and having to redo the entire thing was the breaking point for me.

Very impressive... as a textbook example of how not to do a sequel. :-)
Probably worth the tiny amount it costs now, but I never got past the malaria thing. It just annoyed me from the start. Throw in respawning goons and I didn't last long.

Nice tin though.

Wanted to like it. Tried hard to like it. But just couldn't.

I don't know why they called it Far Cry as it was a totally different game and more or less a new ip. I'm hopeful that Far Cry 3 will be the true sequel that the original deserves!
