Far Cry 2 - opinions?

Had potential, but there were far too many things wrong with it. Getting killed from miles away during a stupidly long mission and having to redo the entire thing was the breaking point for me.

This, combined with unbelievable loading times on the 360, combined to make it immensely frustrating for me.

Wanted to like it. Tried hard to like it. But just couldn't.

Yeah same here. With a bit more thought and better design it could've been an amazing game.

Worst game I have ever bought, wouldnt have got it if I didnt love Far Cry so much. The only thing it had in common with Far Cry was the name.

One of the most boring/repetitive FPS games I have played.

Typical Ubisoft bland repetitive dross. I dont even rate the gfx. Shame really, they used to develop decent games pre-seventh generation consoles.

Echo everyones view that the respawns were a pain - Wipe out a checkpoint, drive 200 yards down the track, turn around and go back, and they were all alive again. This was tedious on missions where you had to pass through the same area a couple of times.

But the positives - big world, plenty to do, plenty of different ways to do it.

Atmospheric, in so much as the passage of night and day were good. And when everything around you was burning, and you could hear the crackling of wood and dry grass, and almost feel the searing heat from the flames as you surveyed the destruction you'd just caused, it was fun...

So personally, I liked it!

Got it for £.174 from steam.:D As others have said, on max settings the game really looks good but the gameplay is a turn-off. Every now and then i just play it to mess around. Could not careless about the storyline.

I hated it and it didnt last long on my system. I was REALLY bummed out. I had followed the developers blog prior to release and read about the whole team being flown to Kenya (?) to record serengeti sounds and such. All of this sounded real exciting and I was looking forward to see the fruits of their labour...

I CAN see what they INTENDED to do and when it comes to the sounds, environment etc they did a good job. But the missions and gameplay were just terrible.

I remember one mission where you have to "intercept" a convoy. Now on your GPS you can see the convoy...and it didnt take 10 seconds to figure out that this convoy was going around in circles - like an Indy Car race. Round and round. So it was easy to pick a spot and then wipe em out. It looked so stupid.

And then the re-spawns. You spend 10mins or so having a big gun battle with baddies at some checkpoint and then move on.

Come back 5 minutes later AND ALL OF THEM ARE BACK. There was absolutely NO sense of accomplishment in this game.

Unlike SKyrim, Fallout 3 etc where you come across the body of someone you boshed AGES ago. You feel like you've DONE something lol.

No Far Cry 2 is best as a smartphone game, best played on your Xperia, Galaxy etc on long boring flights. But as a PC game - umm no.

Terrible game in my opinion. Draws you in with nice graphics then you realise it is utterly repetitive and dull as ditchwater. First one was a million times better.

This game has the worlds worst AI, on top of all its other problems.

I have SEEN enemies pointing and shooting away from my direction.

Gave up playing after a short time, the constant travelling constantly and having to repair weapons really ruined it for me. There were some good points to it, like playing with fire and watching the enemies suffer.

Games are supposed to be fun, and despite a few good points, this wasn't.

I recently reloaded it to try all maxed out with my upgraded 64 bit system, I really enjoyed playing it again & found 2 more hang gliders I missed last time, respawning enemies can be good or bad depending on how much action you want,I found a lot more animals this time for some reason inc. a group of angry Buffaloes that blocked my path & wouldn't move :p
I still get impressed by the way the flames move by the wind & trees burning to charred black
