Well i thought i would test out the my system in a 2 year old game
System
Intel Duo Core 2 3ghz
4gb Ram
Geforce Palit GTX 260 216

my first test was video settings, i found that the game was very buggy you would get a maximum of 30 mins gameplay before it shuts out of the game back to the desktop, this could be to either the CPU or a memory leak causing the game to run out of memory.

i first tested the game on Ultra High Settings, Maximum Resolution and AA x8, the game got as far to the loading screen then chucked me out, quite frustrating, so i tried a lower res which was 1024, i know pretty low, this is with ultra high settings and x2 AA, the gameplay was smooth and was able to play.

Gameplay : The gameplay was ok, but some things were frustrating.
. Checkpoints, why is it ubisoft thought it would be a good idea to have checkpoints restore after 5 mins, when i destroy a base it stays destroyed not respawn.
.Missions, again repetative, you always have to kill someone, i know that we all love chaos and destruction, however we want tactics aswell, like taking photos of a hidden base, or listening in on a conversation without getting spotted.
.I hated the fact that you go half way across the map to complete a mission then spend all your time in a bloody jeep to go back, and destroy the same checkpoints, why not just use the mobile phone to give your mission.
.Enemies, everyone hates you mmmm not a lot i can say about this really, but there are no civillians really, they could have changed this that when you go to a village ppl are trying to live everyday lives, but millitia are in hideouts ect... ,however i think that's too close the real situations.
.Enviroment, the detail of the map is fantastic a lot of effort was put into the detail of the game specially the affects, like the trees blowing in the wind, fires, physics of buildings.
.AI, this made me laugh, even if you were the quietest sniper in the world they would know exactly where you are, you can be half a mile away and they would be able to see you, cmon, also unless they have titanium armour i can see how they survive a bullet to the head .
and the voice overs are not very good, they speak really quick and not very authentic.
.Weapons, then weapons are good but not great why.... because of one thing in particular, JAM! you buy a spanking new weapon and it gets jammed hahahahaa:confused:, also the fact you can't upgrade your weapon like better scope, silencer, bigger magazine.
.Vehicles, okay this is not to bad you can drive, jeeps, cars, boats ect... eccept you have to repair gets annoying after a while.

Overall, a lot of things they need to look into before the release of Far Cry 3,im hoping they set the game back to the original, but with no respawning checkpoints, super strong enemies that can't die, Engine that's computer friendly with no bugs, also upgradable weapons, better missions, like spieing on hideouts, sneeking around, transporting goods ect.. where not everyone hates you.

i know this an old game, but im just hoping that Far Cry 3 is not a big flop as Far Cry 2 which has no connection to Far Cry. 6/10

6/10 is too high imo. yeah it looks nice but that is it. I get more enjoyment out of some flash games.

The biggest let down of any game ever. Going all the way back to my Amstrad CPC 464.

loool, love the comments guys, i hate the checkpoint mostly that just got booring, im going to strain myself and try and complete it last time i got to 80% and just got boored.

Graphics were awesome and it ran very nicely on my 260, but it's a shame they forgot to bother making an actual game.

was resolution did you run at on the 260 reflux, cause mine was just buggy and kept throwing me out if i tried to put the damn AA on?

I second that! I rate a lot of my games on the Amstrad CPC 464 better than FC2!

The only other game I have ever felt so let down with was After Burner on the Amstrad CPC464. I was looking forwards to it for ages and I saved for ages to get it. I was so happy when I got it home the box was HUGE.

I completed it on my third go after about an hour. I nearly cried. :(

A big let-down. I'd go with a 5 or 6 out of 10, it just came so close. Diamonds for weapon upgrades was good, graphics lovely, AI not too bad, tactics - such as using fire to flush out enemies - all this gives + points from me.

Sadly, they seemed to have made the actual game combat mechanics in the last 5 minutes before shipping it to be pressed, as there's just so much wrong with it that could have been better.

I have completed it, but unlike true classic games, I doubt I'll replay it again. Seen it, done it. Bored of it.

Utter crap, they touted it as having 50 hours of gameplay, not a bit of wonder when everything you kill seems to respawn after 2 or 3 minutes.

thats one thing i hated, if they changed the guard post as not being as enemies rather being nutural, what they should have done is put the NPC/Entity as nutural, however if shot at become aggressive.

that way if you shoot at the guard post then they will shoot back, also a cool down time so if you shoot at a guard post and drive off then they are only your enemy for 2-5 mins.

and if you destroy a hut or npc, set respawn to no.

Worth a play and its not as bad as its made out. The only tactics i found was sometimes it was better to do a mission at night and to save on lots of driving just take a bus.

Any open world game where you'd rather take the bus has got things badly wrong. A shame really, cos there were actually quite a few good things about FarCry 2.

imo they should have ditched the open world idea, and just had levels in a large area like the original FarCry. If they'd done that the game would have been pretty good, as the missions themselves were often good fun and it looked great and ran really well for me. It was all the irritating travelling with re-spawning guard posts and other boring grind that ruined it.

I did finally complete it, but took a long time about it. You really have to play it in very small doses otherwise you just get infuriated by some of the moronic design decisions.

Uninstalled it as soon as I reached the 2nd map and realised it was just more of the same.

Pretty graphics but a disjointed story and rubbish repetitive gameplay.

Deserved 60% at a push but it strangely got good write ups from major reviewers. I reckon some palms were greased before the reviews were published.
