Far Cry 3 Thread

Where does that config file you linked to go?

You need to download the sweetFX injector, which can be found here (near the bottom):

http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/sweetfx_shader_suite_download.html

Install by:

1) Extract or copy all the files into the directory of a game exe (keeping the file structure intact)

And then open up the "sweetfx_settings" text document with note pad and copy and paste those settings that I linked to into the document and save, launch the game and whilst in it, use the "scroll lock" button to enable or disable the sweet fx settings.

EDIT:

sorry meant, SweetFX_settings not sweetFX_preset"

This....100%

Far cry 2 and 3 for me are too much about poncing around...."oh...just go and visit this man in the next village in this knackered old car of mine you may borrow and take him some herbs and animal skins in exchange for a rusty AK47....

For god's sake......if i'd wanted all that "take 3 steps forward and present the wizard with some cheese" crap, I'd have bought warcraft.

Far Cry 3?? I mean, they just killed your brother!!! I'd be damned if I'd be faffing about running errands & bartering for a machine gun......I'd just hit you over the head and take it from you, then trudge back up the hill to reek my vengeance on my brother's murderers.

Far Cry is supposed to be a shooter and it all went belly up the second Crytek let go of it!

{Rant Over :)]

yea that's why i didn't get the game, too many bad reviews like this, thank God i saved 30 quid :D

I've been playing the game since launch and so far I am very impressed, I haven't ever played Far Cry 1 & 2 so I am new to it. For the past few days I have wondered why it appears to be so difficult for me... and today it has occurred to me that the Warrior choice that I am playing is the hardest difficulty  lol. Though I have got better as I have progressed in the game and it has made me think about going around the enemy more carefully instead of going crash, bang & wallop and shoot everything that moves.

Here are just some very quick screenshots taken by fraps, it looks much better in game:

sweetfx on the top and original on the bottom:

FPS are reduced by about 5-10 depending on the area when the sweet fx setting is enabled.

I've got it working under DX9, had to place most of the files in the Far Cry 3 folder and not Bin, only 3 files went in Bin.

Looks better than before and I guess I've also got a boost in FPS going to DX9, I can now have Post FX and Shadows on Ultra.

What 3 files do you put in BIN?

What kind of performance should I be expecting with the system in my signature?

Assuming 1080P

Should be quite smooth on all max settings, 2-4x AA. But it depends if Crossfire will work.

d3d9.dll
dxgi.dll
injector.ini

I've also found using Radeon Pro, that tweaking the Texture LOD in the "Advanced" tab helps improve image quality, just don't turn it down too far or everything is super sharp and looks weird. I've also found that apparently Radeon Pro has SweetFX integrated into it, the version I've got is supposed to but does not appear to.

Anyone else have menu lag issues when running at higher resolutions? When I used 1920*1200 everything was fine but now at 2560*1440 after playing a while I find navigating the menu system can be a bit laggy. For example, clicking "Back" can require multiple clicks before it actually does it, even though the Back button recognised the mouse over action first. Sometimes I return to a game only to accidentley fire a weapon as I've gone mad left-clicking the Back button to try to go back.

If so, any workaround ?
