Far Cry 3 Thread

Thanks guys for all the tips :) Im using them now and its made a massive difference. I had been shooting out the alarm boxes but I was bein stupid and only shooting one box. In camps where theres two boxes you gotta shoot em both out or the alarm still works. Took me a while to figure this out lol.

Even more exciting and funny is that if you have a good level or armour and (this is important) theres no flamethrower dudes around you can just run into the camp right under the pirates noses and quickly jab [E] to turn off the alarms. Sometimes the enemies have NEVER reacted to this even when I did this right by them. A small flaw in the AI I guess. But this is the exception. Normally you have about 4 seconds (6 if youre lucky) before they notice you and open up. But the trick is to of course distract them with some rocks, leg it to the box, turn it off and bail.

A bit silly if you think about it - why dont the pirates just turn it on again lol

As for the sniper scum the way you lot described how to deal with them works best: up close and personal. So now I sneak right up to them and wax em. Also if they DO notice you and you are close they put away their sniper rifles and pull out an assault rifle so thats good.

Finally I thought *silenced* sniper rifles were just a computer-game fantasy but I had a look on YT and I'll be darned they are for real. Now I'll feel better about fitting a silencer to a sniper gun in the game :D

Go to 1:40 thats when the shootin starts. Turn up
your sound. Amazing how quiet the weapon is with
the can fitted to the front!

I'm running around doing side missions etc. Every single time I complete one, my character calls Dennis and has EXACTLY THE SAME CONVERSATION. I've heard it about 15 times now. It's driving me insane.

This also drives me mad. How could.....how COULD they create this game and still overlook something so simple? Just give the AI a database of 200 or so phrases so we dont hear the same dang thing over and over.

Oh and another gripe...a big one...WTH is this that we have to keep using ONLY the knife to take out a pirate on these side missions? There you are bristling with all this firepower but no...its the dang machete u gotta use. Ok here and there its fine but every mission I seem to pick is "use the knife"

Snore. Zzz.

there are far too many moments like this in the game!...why, 22 hours in to the game was I getting a big message appear on screen telling me to press ctrl to crouch? It is like the game was designed for the completely retarded.

Dev1- "well we better remind them how to crouch, in case they have forgotten...and replay that conversation telling them to go and talk to Dennis as well"
Dev2- "Are you sure that is enough?...I think we should have a message appear on screen telling them what Dennis has just said as well, put a big yellow marker on the screen and map to show where Dennis is, and have Dennis flashing bright yellow as well, just in case they miss him"

I enjoyed the game, but this really wore me down!

(btwm I realise that now a lot of the prompt options can be turned off, but none could at release)

The games says it's to prove yourself manly enough for the tribe. I did find this a bit daft though too, despite enjoying the game on the whole. I was just glad the insta-respawning checkpoints from FC2 were gone.

Got this last week and intended to give it a go last night.

Everything works except for the HUGE lag in mouse movement :(

Using surround and heard that SLI (Got a GTX690) is bugged in DX11?

Anyone know any fixes for it?

Can anyone give me any hints to complete the mission The Ride of the Valkyries.
I keep getting killed every time. I get to flying from the base to the next camp but the helicopter gets blown out of the sky , I have got about halfway over the camp but thats it.
The trouble is if you exit out of the game you have to start from the beginning of the initial sequence all over again.

I can't remember there being any tricks to that mission. I'm going to come across as Captain Obvious here, but be sure to take down anyone behind a mounted machine gun or a carrying an rpg first. If it does get too frustrating you may as well just bump down the difficulty level.

Try MaxFPS="30" in the gamesettings.ini, put it after V-Sync and make the file read only once you've saved your settings.

First time I ever did it I went straight through in one ;)
Second time I had trouble, so left lots of mines and shot stuff up between attacks on the Heli, you seem to get attacked from the ground around parked planes etc, knock them out when you can :)

Does this mean ALL the side missions are machete-only?

Wish they had sniping ones where you had to take a pirate out from a mile away...but with one shot only :D

The Wanted Dead ones are. There are missions to kill pesky critters of animals that have been killing people. You are told to use a certain weapon that you pick up near the animal's location. You might have a sniper rifle one time, then a bow and arrow the next. Interestingly you can't use your own sniper rifle. It has to be a specific one. I've not tried finding out what happens if you just happen to have that specific weapon in your arsenal before you go to the mission site.

There meant to be tribal, hence using the knife. Its far to easy to kill people with a sniper.

You can still kill all his mates with other means though. I managed to get 4 of them with a grenade once, that was fun :)

Besides, I've had plenty of sniping fun taking out the outposts without being detected.

You don't have to use the specific weapon, you just have to use that type of weapon. If you arrive and already have one equipped it just switches to it and you pick up the ammo. Early on in the game its a good way to get free weapons, but later on you just use your own already equipped one as it will have better attachments.

Incidentally, if it's a bow-only mission, you have to use normal arrows. Apparently explosive ones aren't good if you're planning to use the skin for something...

Wow, I just reinstalled Far Cry 3 after doing a fresh Windows reinstall, got the latest nvidia drivers for my GTX670 and my god, I was shocked at how much smoother the game is since my first play through at release.

At release I had to tweak all the settings to get a smooth game but now I can put everything on max and it runs fine. Theres obviously been some bug fixing, tweaking etc by both Ubisoft and Nvidia.

Well chuffed, just have to see how Crysis 3 runs now, fingers crossed.
