I dunno really, I loved the mutant areas as much as the human areas. In fact my favorite part of Far Cry was the bit where you get dropped off in the jungle with just a few bullets and have to get to the crashed helecopter past all the monsters. Great fun.
I did start playing this again a year or so back, but I gave up on the treetops level or thereabouts - but not because of the mutants. Just too many other games grabbing my attention.
IMO it's the best SP FPS ever made and from a technology standpoint it is also very impressive. I think because it pre-dates Doom3 and HL2 (it's nearly 3 years old now) it sometimes gets overlooked but with HDR/SM3/64bit support it is still up there with the best of them and even has some funky different rendering modes to change the feel of the environment (paradise/cold/cartoon/improved etc)
good game play, amazing graphics, and runs about 35-40fps, everything turned to full wack on the machine in my sig.
Very hard game though, esspecially not being able to save, the check point saves are pretty poorly placed. Which gets highly annoying, because most things in the game can 1-2hit you if you don't have armour on
Well if they jump on you, your pretty much screwed. Its almost impossible to shoot them when they are jumping because they move too fast. But they can jump on you from about 60-70feet away, two hits and your dead. Very frustrating when you just played the game for 20-30minutes with no save from your last point.
I just randomly started playing through this again today, still looks lovely and runs real nice on my current rig, specially compared to when i had a 9800pro back when i first encountered the demos
Not sure if i'll try and complete it again but we shall have to see - some bits just got boring with all the monsters and the ending was a huge let down in all honesty
I like the mutant bits. I like the stuff before that too, but the mutants are cool too. I remember one of the levels felt like a zombie film because you had a jeep and you're just driving through the jungle running over monsters and you're absolutely wetting yourself.
Nothing really. If you are playing on normal difficulty and are prepared to adapt your tactics then aside from a few tricky levels you shouldn't have too many problems.
Far Cry is a BIG game and no doubt people would have been moaning about lack of variety in enemies if it had all been vs mercs. I think it's good to spice things up a bit with a different type of opponent, and if people can't handle being rushed by melee opponents, then hard luck. You can't sneak around in the bushes sniping guys off like a wuss all the time.
Weapon selection is important and I tended to use the P90 against trigens as it has a 50 round clip.

I loved this game, even the mutant bits as they make it much more challenging. I got it when i built my rig nearly 2 years ago and luckily at the time i got a 6800GT and 3200+ with 1gb ram so could pretty much play it at full detail and 1280 x 1024, i was gob smacked at the gfx at the time and still think they look great.

I do not think that is what people in this thread meant when they said they did not like the mutant level Of course I cannot speak for them all but the reason *I* hated them was because I generally lean towards realism in FPS titles.
In a nutshell - Id rather hunt down mercs in a jungle cuz mercs & jungles exist in real-life and gives me that extra bit of immersion Im lookin' for in a game, yea I know that sounds geeky but oh well
So when I saw these mutants and then later on 15-foot hulk things comin' at me I was like whatever yawn yawn zzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz
The jungle levels & human enemies in FC were awesome but the rest of the game made me think "If I wanted to do this I would have played Half Life"
PS: I do have Half-Life...and Oblivion.....so I really like those games too.
