FarCry3 Saving/Loading

am i being a bit thick?
i save my game and when i come back to load the save
i'm in a different place than where i saved?

progress is saved but you always load at a radio tower or a town with a shop i think

Yep game loading always dumps you back at a specific location - it's more of a 'game progress' save than 'game state'.

You can abuse this sometimes to effectively teleport to nearby location if you are getting frustrated finding your way past difficult terrain.

One of the many things that cheesed me off about the game. In many ways very, very good but it has flaws all over the place.
