Farty colleague

Definately bring it up with your HR, but also be careful with the whole jokeyness of it, he might call upon you to HR saying you're harrassing him or something stupid.
 
Hahaha this thread is great!

I'm the master of farts after lunch, no idea but before then I'm fine, then after ohhhh my god keep away! Mine are more noisy than smelly, but still very funny, puts a smile on everyone's face, even the girls. Of course this is all in moderation, I'd never make it an unpleasant experience unless my brother is around.

Farts are alpha and manly.
 
I have also experienced similar myself :( Nobody around me smells bad (thankfully) but if you walk through a particular part of the office, the air is so stale and stinks of sweat it makes me gag.

I just don't understand how people can't shower, at least every other day...
 
Far too many sensible answers so far.

Remove some bolts from his chair, so it falls to bits when he sits down next. Then stand up and laugh at him, whilst pointing and shouting "haha the smelly man fell over!!!!1111! LOLOLOLOLBBQ"

or similar..
 
Before my time at work, but the same thing happened.

A group of people thought the same, even buying said person some deodrant kits for xmas.

I believe they mentioned it so many times to the boss, the boss had to take action?

Am I right that a boss can complain to someone about personal hygiene? Even instruct them to sort it out?

You have already complained but only, by the sound of it, in a rather jokey manner. Time to make more formal complaints. Start with your team leader/line manager or whatever and, as soon as it is apparent that nothing is being done, make a formal complaint to the next level up. When making your complaint, which can be verbal, make it clear that you will escalate the matter if they, the person you've complaining to, doesn't.
 
Body odours are a disciplinary matter when they negatively impact on colleagues or clients. Get HR involved and they can start issuing verbal and written warnings until this guy either figures out soap and learns basic bowel control, or gets to stink out the job centre instead.
