fast hdd for os

It doesn't require 12% free space, which by the way is an enormous amount even on a 20GB HDD. You simply don't know what you're talking about.

Indeed. From the Perfectdisk help file:

"Available Free Space - While a certain amount of usable free space is required for any disk defragmenter to work, PerfectDisk performs well with as little as 1% usable free space. Other disk defragmentation products may suggest that you have at least 20% usable free space in order to effectively defragment a disk."

yeah just read that actually, version 2007 needed 5%, version 2008 1%, might have been thinking of diskeeper, but you need more than the 1% to do a full defrag, otherwise it can only do a partial defrag.

Anyway, everyone should keep around 5% free for defragging and if your swap file needs to get bigger.

I can use 2007 with less than 1% free. Free space amounts and percentages alone have nothing to do with whether or not you can defrag a drive unless the application has an artifical limit in place.
