Faster home network, help

Looking for info on how to do this right, or im going in right direction

Currently on VM 50mb package, modem to netgear router.
router has only 4 ports to connect to, these used with

1-My Pc, 2-Other Room PC, 3-PopcorN A300, 4-(other popcorn, xbox & now a ps3) all share 4th if want to use that certain item.
also have option on smartv.

This what hoping to do, none will be wireless.

1st. My Pc (gigabyte transfer speed or closest to it)
2nd. Room pc (gigabyte transfer speed or closest to it)
3rd. Popcorn a300 (gigabyte transfer speed or closest to it)
4th. xbox
5th. ps3
6th. popcorn 2nd
7th. smart tv

so if i bought something like this Cisco Linksys SE2800 8-port Gigabit Switch

do i just add this to modem & work of that. or do i have to add it to the router? or am i way out?
for the gigabyte speed, do i just buy 3x cat6 cables, add to above & get better speeds?

also should be upgrading to vm 100mb line in next 8 weeks, will the superhub stop me doing any of this.

really want a lost faster speeds to other pc & popcorn, the rest fine at 100mb.

so am i doing it right or am i way out & need to get something else.

You'd need to add the switch on the LAN side of the router.

This would apply equally to both your current router and the superhub.

I would keep it simple

superhub > new 8 port switch > decives.

alternativly you could plug three of the devices into the superhub and get 1gb and then your existing router (dhcp disabled etc) and the remaining devies into that. but i would do the above personally might as well 1gb to everything.

i am using the suphub just has a router (no wifi) 8 port switch and a wifi range extender and wifi ethernet adapter for blu-ray player,xbox ,wii
8 port switch for nas,main pc,and dvr for cctv
range extender for laptop,phones and daughters laptop which is 1\4 km away

You don't need Cat6 cables, Cat5e is fine. Cat6 is obviosuly okay, but it's not worth spending any extra buying them.

yup, only need 2 more cables now, but the now can almost get the same price on cat6 as cat5, 2x10m, £19
