Anyone know much about the system?

I sent a payment last night (just before 6pm) for an item from MM.
It left my account immediately. The sort code etc matches those supplied (checked that)

But the money hasnt appeared.

I am sending from Santander and hes with HSBC both of whom claim to support the system. I know I can send to Lloyds and it appears very quickly so in theory Santander support the system)

So only possibility I can come up with (other than wrong sort code etc) is that the system goes down outside normal banking hours? (doesnt sound likely)

Overall pretty confused where this can have gone wrong.

Anyone got any ideas or sent from Sanatander ---> HSBC and known it take more than a few hours?

How much was the amount?

Some banks are weird about sending to a new person.

For example A&L (Part of Santander) its quicker to send £1 on day one, then day two send the rest of the money and it will arrive instantly, then the £1 will arrive the day after on day three.

Did you have to use two-factor authentication when setting up the payment?

Sometimes, if a payment is being sent to a new payee, the bank will refer it for a fraud check. It might be worth giving Santander a call to enquire.

i sold a item on the members market and the buyer paid by bank transfer with santander and im with natwest and i thnk it took 2 to 3 days

The banks normally open around 9am, so it should be complete by 11am today (normally it will transferred within 2 hours, but during working hours)

I think?. I'm with HSBC & it usually follows this rule......usually! :)

Doubtful, if it was not instant it will be three working days.

Alliance & Leicester is the most useless bank ever, I closed an account with them due to their very weird practices and terrible online banking.

Wierd how people view diff things about the same bank.
I really like A&L and find them better than both Lloyds and Barclays. (No idea on long term impact from Santander though)
I rated First Direct but had an issue that they just would not address and in the end it was easier to close my account and move. I may go back to them though at some point though.

Tends to be hit and miss for me. Sometimes it says "Will be in the destination bank account within 2 hours", sometimes "3-5 working days".

Did a Barclays to HSBC one when I bought my car in July. It was on a Saturday midday and for a few thousand pounds. I did the transfer online upon colelction. The chap phoned HSBC 10 minutes later and he already had the amount appear in his account. I was pleasantly surprised as I read somewhere it could still take up to 48h.

it's santanders new system the first payment to someone takes upto 3 days the next payment to the same person is instant. Kinda stupid imo and yes usually the pound arrives later than the rest of the funds if it's a large amount and they decide to do it that way

HSBC to Barclays

I made a payment from HSBC to Barclays and since the Barclays account was new, The payment took a good few hours to clear.
