Faster-than-light travel?

When I am in charge, I will announce the race for a Briton to be the first person on Mars, therefore, I would use the considerable resources of this country to explore this route as one of the ways of getting there.

There is no ambition anymore, the 'let's build it and see' attitude appears to hev been educatd out of our scientists and engineers. There is only one real way of knowing if it works after all.....

But it all costs money - it makes sense to concentrate on the ones that are at least plausible.....

Baring in mind he did this with most of his forearms missing, and only 10% of his vision and hearing surely must warrant some generous respect - regardless if you believe it or not.

I hope they do try using this "Z-Machine" because it would give some real stats to look at, and hopefully figure out where / if they went wrong somewhere.

One thing I'm wondering.. say they do try this out and it works; they'll be hundreds of lightyears away and probably won't know how to get back lol

This sort of thing really interests me and that was a good read. It does sound plausable but we won't know if its possible for many years yet.

Another thing that interests me is Ion propulsion. This we have already experimented on and nasa's DS1 used it to get to mars although its horrendously slow at the moment (has to build up speed slowely).

I think this country should spend more money on this sort of thing rather than wasting it on pointless art grants.

Using intense electromagnetic fields reminds me of the Philadelphia experiment caried out by the USA in the 40s as part if their anti uboat programme .the idea was that the field created would refract light ,rendering the ships invisible .

Unfortunately the experiment alledgedly had dire results on the crews health .Seams that this articel hasnt really considered how to protect the occupants of such a vehicle from the effects of the field .

there is a lot of stuff out there about the PE .do a google , makes for an interesting read . heres a link to get you started
