looking for a temp 4tb fileserver my 5400 is too slow usbc sort of thing
not mains powerd

The days of fast 2.5" HDDs are gone, overtaken by SSDs. If that's what you need and you really mean external disk rather than fileserver then you're looking at £400 upwards for something like a Crucial X6.
