Need a new HDD for my laptop. The WD Scorpio Black looks good, but what is the fastest one that I can get?

It needs to be at least 300GB, preferably more, and under £60.

I can not get an SSD because of the amount of space I need. My laptop only has space for one storage device and a 300GB SSD is extortionate.

What would you recommend? Needs to fast, decent boot times and reliable.

Any of the 7200rpm 2.5" drives are your best bet - Either the Scorpio Black or Seagate Momentus. If budget could reach to around £95 then a Seagate Hybrid would probably be better.

I second mod1fied , the hybrids sound like your best bet , nice and fast and big at the same time.

Would be nicer if they made larger full size versions, 120gb ssd mixed with a 2tb drive would be awesome.

Well I got the Seagate 500GB Momentus XT 2.5" Hybrid SSD/HDD SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM from another retailer as Overclockers were out of stock for £78.99 with free delivery. I would recommend this if you want a fast drive. I get 111mb/s read and write with a usb3 caddie.
