Fastest AM2+/AM2 CPU?

However,I don't think I would suggest the OP to get a G620 with an HD7950. That means those overclocked E5200 CPUs are really no worse TBH. No wonder socket 775 has lasted so long.
My E5200 overclocked to 3.75GHz is bottlenecking my 9800GTX+ in DCUO and GW2 badly and the 9800GTX+ still have loads of free GPU usage :p Good luck with a Phenom I at around 2.0GHz not bottlenecking 8800GT especially when most games don't use 4 cores or more.

if you cant afford a full upgrade ... id say get the graphics card now ... it will take a performance hit .. but when you can then do a cpu /mobo you will get a nice boost again... thin of it as a double gpu boost on the same card ;)

If you think that is best.

I had a 965BE and upgraded to a 3770K (Very expensive upgrade i understand)
But the FPS increase for just the CPU in gaming was alone superb. Then in video rendering and so forth just blew me away. Good to save for the long run though i suggest, make do with what you can :)

But then the GPU is wasted money.
Be better off getting a decentish GPU such as a 7850 (110 after selling the games) and a CPU that can push it on the Intel platform.

But then would I not just be compromising with both CPU and GPU so will always be playing catch up when im in the same boat 2 year from now?

I totally appreciate the "spend money or CPU or GPU" argument as been going on for decades now....so thanks for even posting here guys!

I guess it come down to if I'm buying one now, and the other at Christmas what's going to improve but fall in price......will i get a better GPU or CPU for less then today come Christmas? (dose that make sense?)

OTH,I personally think the OP needs to overhaul their entire rig.
That is kind of the theme of this thread, im not exactly boasting about my hardcore OC l33T gaming rig!

Not really.
An i5 would push the 7850 perfectly fine, while allowing you to upgrade the 7850 in say 2 years time without any need to change the CPU.

I don't think prices will drop much at all by Christmas... You may as well buy a cheap socket 1155 mobo, a Core i3 CPU, 8GB of cheap DDR3 RAM and a Radeon 7850 if you're on a tight budget (this config will destroy your curent rig ;)). Hopefully your current PSU should be upto the task (what is it by the way?).

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showdown PC Games £134.99
1 x Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £87.59
1 x ASRock H61M-GS Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro Motherboard £38.99
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £25.99
Total : £298.96 (includes shipping : £9.50).

The above config is using the cheapest parts available on OcUK and will still be a big improvement on what you're using now (performance wise). The mobo is Ivy compatible too, but i selected the Sandy chip as it's cheaper and the performance difference is probably negligible.

Man Im on one hell of a tight "we are ment to be saving for a deposit on a house" girlfriend imposed budget!!!

But £3-350 is something I can get away with, so will take a serouse look at your picks!

Just dont want to get stuck in the hole im in now, where iv really got no where to go with my CPU.....So have to upgrade EVERYTHING.

Dont need the whole rig to last me a couple of years, but need the option to switch out CPU/GPU over the next 2 or so years.....but right now I need something that will at least double my in game FPS.....struggling with 25+ in the few I do play (ARMAII Mods)

My PSU is a Alphapower ATX-850

I'd be getting a decent PSU too.
In 2 years time you could probably net a cheap i7 3770 to throw in the socket 1155 rig (While it'll be a "dead" platform, it'll double your CPU performance pretty much) while also being able to take a GPU that'll double your performance.

Then in a further 2 years time, probably switch to the platform at the time

I've never heard of that PSU and it probably can't handle the advertised 850W (seems like a cheap, low quality unit from what i've read)... I would definitely change it :).

The following PSU would be plenty for the parts i listed earlier (it's a good quality 'budget' PSU and my brother has used his for the last year or so with no issues ;)) :

1 x XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £56.99
