Fastest internet connection?

So I've just had a couple of mates around who were in awe of my 100Mb connection. Then I was asked what the fastest internet connection in the world is!

Now we're not talking Virgin Media here, or even the crazy fast speeds available in South Korea & on Google Fibre. They were talking about the kind of internet connections that company's like Apple, Microsoft and Google will have piped directly into there HQ's.

Does anyone happen to know the download & upload speeds available when money is no object?

The UK is embarrassingly woeful when it comes to broadband speeds. BT constantly put off upgrades knowing they had the monopoly and didn't need to spend the money. If it weren't for Virgin we would be even worse off. BT planned to install FTTC in my area 2 years ago and it's only recently been done. The funny thing is they can still only offer 47mb but insisted I paid for the 76mb package. Virgin on the other hand can connect and provide me with a 100mb.

They're both up to. Nobody is going to guarantee the bandwidth unless you spend ££££.

I get 1.5mb I guess I lose completely. There are no plans to upgrade my exchange:( if they did I would be the first in line for FTTC.

Did you read all the replies?

I certainly did and unless I'm missing something it would seem that Onlive have the fastest connection proven so far.

I believe that the 186Gbps is a one off lab test data transfer accomplishment rather than 24/7 stable connection.

The article even mentions that high-energy physicists were needed in order to achieve that result! :D

Whilst this is no doubt a glimpse in to the future, I don't think it's a 24/7 type of connection right now.

BT wanted to run fibre to every home in 80's. However it was blocked in favour of competition... and bringing in cable services for competition.

Not done us a great deal has it...

There's a company in the UK called Hyper Optic offering 1Gbps. I've had quite a few leaflets for them through the door. They're offering to run fibre to everyone in out block if enough people sign up.
