Fastest + Lowest latency + Reliable 32GB RAM for 12700K and 5900X

Hi guys,

I NEED MY PC TO BE 100% RELIABLE AND NOT CRASH!

Which is the better option......?

Build 5900x + X570 Dark Hero with DDR4 3600Mhz CL14 RAM (RAM LATENCY 7.7 nanoseconds) OR.....

12700K + Z690 Maximum HERO + DDR5 4800Mhz CL36 (RAM LATENCY 15 nanoseconds) for now and UPGRADE RAM to lower CAS latency.......4800Mhz CL16 (RAM LATENCY 6.6 nanoseconds) in 2/3+ years time.....

I don't want to mess around with timings etc, as I am a novice, I don't mind just having to enable XMP from bios.....

AIM FOR THE BUILD IS FOR USE AS HOME/OFFICE/MEDIA COMPUTER TO LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.......

PLEASE HELP...........

Whats the most intensive task you do ?

For now, hate those big windows updates from microsoft, sp1 sp2 etc.....take forever to update and install ...windows 11 and future updates will prob require more powerful faster ram?
watching 4k movies online,
running bitdefender scans....
word processing
emails
surfing internet, with multiple windows open.....

WANT SOMETHING TO LAST 8 YEARS MINIMUM.....

12700k us the way to go but probablly dont even need that poweful cpu, ddr5 has little impact on anything that's not massively data orientated that needs the extra bandwith.

A £250 motherboard will do the same as a fancy £400 board .


12700k, Z690 motherboard with ddr4 3600mgz memory is the cost effective choice.

What DDR4 Z690 motherboards would you say look good and have most features..... ? I want to make it look good as well as go good! I quite like the Z690 Hero, I know its overkill, but its DDR5. There really aren't any good looking DDR4 Z690 boards for sale, something with a little ARGB/RGB....... I think your recomendation makes a lot of sence......just wish there were nicer looking boards out there...... 12700k poweful CPU with Fast 3600 cl14/cl16 RAM!

To be honest either system will be overkill for your use at the moment and is likely to remain overkill for a considerable time.

Nobody can predict what your usage is going to be in 8 years time

True....but I don't see it changing too drastically...... and would rather have the power/speed at hand then not.....

MSI Gaming Edge makes a lot of sense.......just did the calculations.....and it would cost me £2k for the pc alone.....! I'm coming to my senses now and thinking if it would make more sense just to buy an AIO instead.... like the HP Envy All in One 2022, when and if it is released in the uk? Upgrading and replacing components further down the line would become an issue then....?
