Fastest none SSD drive ?

I'll go out on a rotten limb and say a VelociRaptor, not kept up much with mechancial hdds as all i buy them for is for storage and things may have changed :)

You're wasting your time with the Caviar Black. Bought one, didn't see any difference between other brands. Maybe have a look at the hybrids drives? (not sure how they perform

Another vote for the Samsung F3. Put one in a friend's newbuild not long ago and it's quite quick. Blacks and Raptors aren't worth the money, might as well just add a little more and get an SSD then.

Hi, have a look at one of these a Hybrid > Seagate Momentus XT 500GB/320GB/250GB > Hybrid SATA-II 2.5" 7200RPM 32MB. They are a lot faster than a normal sata HD.

Only for 4 gig worth of data that you access repetitively. Better to just get the fastest totally mechanical drive until the tech matures & reduces in price.

I can vouch for the Seagate XT drives. Bought a 250G for £50 and its faster than any raptor i've owned. Win7 boots up in less than 20 seconds, from switching on.
