fastest PCI graphics card available?

The Nvidia 280 series if you want the fastest out - however the 4870x2 out soon and the 4870 is close on the heels of the 280.

If you want the fastest then I would personally wait for the 4870x2 which will easily beat the 280 - which is out soon.

I've seen a PCI 2400 Pro in stock in one place, there were also supposed to be some PCI 8400 GS, 8500 GT and 8600 GT cards.

Any idea of the power draw of any of these cards? I reckon I could power a 35W peak draw in a spare system...

PCI? You'd be paying over the odds but there are options available.

But bare in mind with the PCI bandwidth of 133Mb/sec, it is a far cry from PCI-E 2.0's 16,000MB/sec when transferring in both directions

I had the same problem looking for a card for an Asus Pundit R that would allow it to run vista. In the end the solution was to buy a new machine. All of the PCI cards are way way over priced, and performance does not compare to AGP or PCIe cards, even of the same series
