Ok, to cut a long story short... my license has been stolen, and I have to drive a hire car in Germany on the 15th June and then for 2 weeks after that.
A new license takes longer than this to arrive (15 days ish), so what can I do?

I still have the paper part, and an FMT600 (military driving license) but could really do with a new photocard ASAP.

DVLA website just leads me to directgov, which tells me to pay £22, send off a form, and wait...

DVLA told me 3 - 4 weeks for a new logbook when i changed address

got it back last week about 5/6 days later. Just stick it in the post and hope for the best. Dont think theres a "fast track" method like there is with passports.

That's a VERY long way (I'm in Newcastle...)

Maybe if I whack it in the post, follow it up with a phonecall, and cross my fingers?

Do you think my paper part will be OK to hire a car on its' own?

Would be sharing the car with another guy who has both parts of his license.

Worth giving them a call. I think, cant guarentee, that you can do it over the phone. Occasionally a pupil loses part of there licesne and they pay over the phone and a new one is sent out. I'd do it anyway and hope they send it back asap.

For what its worth I sent my whole License back on Wednesday 23 May to have additional provisional entitlements for LGV etc added and I recived it back on Tuesday 29th May!! Thats stunning considering they get a medical form and reissued my photocard and counterpart and there was a bank hoilday Monday involved!

You never know you might just get lucky! Sometimes the DVLA get it right!

I thought that the DVLA have 'Sub' offices in parts of the UK, or am i thinking of something else .....

I lost my licence on holiday once, and was renting a scooter to nip about on- I rang the DVLA and they faxed through my details to the rental company.

They'll only do it a maximum of 3 times though so I'm told.
