As of this morning, I'm on a water only 'detox' if you will, for 3 days. I will eat is Friday morning.

I have read this is really good for cleaning out the system if you like, has anyone done this before?

What benefits did you gain from doing such an activity?

Don't bother, massive waste of time.

This.

Most people have crud diets, and so being a on a strict, healthy diet will effect more or less the same changes. Just because it's a fad doesn't mean it makes any sense.

I have fasted for 12hrs/day for 19 days and all I felt for the first week was rubbish. The second week was fine, and the third week was fine. However, my diet isn't filled with crud, and so I didn't notice much difference, in resting sensation. The massive difference was the lack of any ability to do anything in the gym.

Just clean up your diet, eat sensibly and reap the same rewards without feeling like you've been hit by a train.

Huh, a lot of research has gone into such a thing though, ideally I will be doing 48 hours on water.

It surely can't be total ******** can it?

You don't seem to have done much research/preparation for this. What are your motivations in a 3 day water fast?

Just to add some balance to my hatred, I've actually done 48 hours on just water before purely to see if I could not because I expected some great health benefits or anything and funnily enough after 48 hours with no food I just felt deflated and tired.

Yes, a lot of research has been done, sure, but over a specific time frame, with little carry-over into the effects post-fasting.

Why does this matter?

Because:

a) The point of fasting is to rebalance hormone sensitivity. If you go clean for a week or so (i.e. eating a properly balanced diet that manages your insulin) you get broadly similar results but without the misery;
b) As soon as you come OFF a fast, your body reverts to its normal state (i.e. you start eating crud again you undo all your hard work)l
c) The issue with 98% of people is that their diets are rubbish. So reverting to a decent diet for even a short time will reap benefits;
d) Not eating anything for 12+hrs means you start burning bodyfat efficiently?!?! Wow - I would never have guessed! Oh, wait - I can achieve the same by managing my food intake to do this, too?

The issue that then occurs is when the media get hold of anything (or supplement companies) and then take a narrow spread of results that are created in a vacuum (lab) and extrapolate them across an unrealistic population. I.e. blow the results out of all proportion.

So yes, there are health benefits. However, it is pretty much as easy to get there using a bit of thought. But that involves work for most people, and so they adopt the 'easy' approach of just eating nothing.

No real thoughts have gone into it, other than a family member who is all about natural health and the likes mentioned I should give it a go after feeling constantly full yet hungry all the time.

Thanks for all the advice, I will carry on with it and see how it goes.

That could possibly be down to a food intolerance, which you guessed it would return as soon as you stopped fasting.
You've got to find the root cause rather than a quick fix.

Good luck.

What is your (and their) diet like? And don't tell me it's awesome because you shouldn't be full and yet hungry on a decent diet. :)

This is what I don't get. It will have short term benefits, and then you'll have to do it again. People shouldn't need to fast to feel OK. This therefore points to the OP having an underlying problem (whether it's a medical one such as an intolerance, or simply a poor diet). Deal with that.

That said, if you do try it I'd be interested in hearing how it goes!

I eat well in general, and I do IF and have noticed a big difference.
So as long as your usual eating habits are in order, I don;t see how anyone can object / contradict my results I've had.

Define well, and then define your IF protocol.

If you're using your diet to manage your hormones (i.e. insulin and IGF) via the 16/8 or 20/4 or whatever will do the same thing as watching what you eat and timing stuff in line with your exercise/circadian rhythm.

It is easier for most people to deal with in a defined routine (i.e. 16/8 or whatever) but it isn't necessary.

I'm not a calorie counter, nor do I measure all my macros.
I know what to eat and generally how much of it to eat and stick to some few basic rules (protein with every meal, whole foods only, eat more on days I do my heavier compound gym days, etc)

My IF protocol is that of consuming 600 cals, at dinner, twice a week. Generally this would be skinless chicken with a bit of rice.

Keyboard warrior might jump up in the air and point out numerous flaws, but I'm in the best shape I've been for years (never actually been ain a bad shape), I lift heavier than I've ever lifted ( 120kg squat / 120kg dead @ 78 KG bodyweight... I'm fairly happy with that) and I feel more energetic than ever....and that's me with one baby and one toddler + riding bikes over the weekend.
