Fat Bikes

Yeah fair enough. I switched from a road bike in South Africa to a hybrid here just so I could ride on slightly fatter, softer tyres. The roads here are...less comfortable. A fat bike seems a bridge too far though. I'd sooner spend money on a suspended saddle than a fat bike to solve that problem. Each to their own I guess.

Yes I agree. The massive tyres are a response to the surfaces I’m riding on when I’m with the dog. For uk roads I think (laughably) that a gravel bike is ideal. Basically a road bike with something like 700x40c.

I'd agree with that sentiment. The roads around where I live in the UK are so poor that you really need wider tyres (700c x 40+)

The 25/32mm ones I had on my old hybrid/road bike were too unforgiving.

Spot on. I’m always amazed how well my e-bike goes on flat ground. Despite being 25kg, when fitted with 29x2.0 it rolls really well.
