Fat kids? Mums - it's all your fault!

This is a complicated one, as everyones opinions are wildly different. I don't think my kids eat a paticularly healthy diet, yet to some families we're being very strict on them.

Mine don't eat veg everyday. 3 or 4 times a week maybe, mixed in with the usual spag bol, and of course nuggets and chips now and again. We feel it's a nice balance.

My sister though feeds her kid on nothing other than nuggets and chips.

Mine go to mcdonalds on birthdays. My cousins kids, once a week every week.

We both work, I don't think work has anything to do with it. It's knowledge and understanding.

Some people think sausages are healthy.....no, they really do!

and of course if you say anything you get the same old replies

"he's only young"
"he's happy"
"he's a growing boy"
"he won't eat anything else, he's fussy" <-- Fussy!!!! all he knows is nuggets and chips!!

Meh!

Typical life is so different now for kids compared to those of us that reached the age of ~18 before the double-edged sword of the internet became widespread in the late 1990s.

It's too easy for kids (and adults too) to be drawn into losing lots of their "free time" doing various sedentary things on their mobiles, PC and consoles.

While it's far easy now to get high Calorie snacks and microwave ready meals compared to back then.

And to top it off, the government spouts rubbish about 20mins of walking is enough to stay healthy!

The average age expectancy in the UK for ~40-sonethings is now declining for good reason, lots working sedentary long hour jobs and sitting in traffic there and back, feeling too shattered or simply won't make time to regularly do some proper exercise.

Missing the point. Why are the children of single working mums more at risk than those of single working fathers?

Ah wait so children of single working fathers are at the same level of risk of obesity as those from families where the mother doesn't work? I didn't see that in the article, and it looks like the research isn't published yet. It would be very interesting indeed if that were the case, but I would hold fire until I could see the results on that demographic.

Anecdotally , this doesn't particularly tie up. The only fat kid in my son's class has a non working mother. And most of the other mums do work.

It's interesting though

Its the parents fault my daughter mine is now 12 thin fit and healthy. She is not allowed sweets before a meal all meals are cooked fresh, maybe the odd pizza and mc ds but that's it.

She did not eat baby food after about 3 months everything was cooked fresh. She will eat anything now from sprouts to broccoli, steak, all the fish you can think of.

The is nothing she will not eat. I do lie the is one thing macaroni and cheese never seen a kid go so ill in seconds.

My wife works and my kids are skinny.

Conversely there's a chub-a-lub that lives a few doors away, sponges as much from the benefit system as possible and sends her kids round to the chip shop at half ten at night for their supper.

They're not so skinny.
Where is there a chip shop open at half ten? :o

Is that just a condescending insult or an insight observation comment?

The study in question is saying it’s the fault of one of the parents and who else’s fault would it be if a kid is fat? outside of fringe cases like rare genetic disorders or children with no parents...

I'd put it down to a sedentary lifestyle. As for the McDonald's thing, my son is a manager at one, none of the staff are fat, and they all eat McDonald's for free every day. Most of the customers on the other hand...

Its simple if you feed them **** then you get **** back. Its not hard an IQ of 70 even less should be able to figure it out. They just lazy b******* screw em.

The root cause is that men are lazy.
I'm guessing that if the mother stays at home, she cooks proper food and if she works the kids get microwaveable meals. The fact that it makes no difference if the father works or not shows that he never bothers to cook proper meals.

Actually, based on personal experience, the root cause is that women are lazy, so if the woman is working, then not only does the man have to work full time, do all the DIY, sort out the garden and cook the dinner, he also has to do all the cleaning, laundry, washing up etc. as well, and obviously something has to give; it's far easier to chuck a pizza in the oven instead of cooking properly than it is to "shortcut" some of the other things that need doing

/sweeping generalisation :p

facts are racist sexist guys

I feel triggered now

:D

I still wanna know if she was in the right tho... I mean granted the ham planet is being rude/obnoxious and demanding but is she just acting all fat or entitled or have they genuinely stiffed her on her cheese... in which case I can see why she'd get angry over it, food is clearly an important part of her life!

in my experience the main reason for obesity is for the most part a result of low income encouraging use of fatty nutritonally deficient , calorie high cheap mass produced crap that also is quite addictive.
together with poor availability of safe outdoor areas in poorer areas(not graffiti playgrounds/
parks used by drug users covered in dog muck and vomit) where real activitys can be conducted(hiking, canoeing, mountain climbing, cycling etc

it's not the father's job to cook meals.
