Fatal Youtube stunt

I read about this earlier and it just boggles my mind.

Given that you're foolish enough to try something like this in the first place, surely you'd conduct a whole bunch of tests first to at least see if the book would be capable of stopping a bullet? Even then you'd want a bulletproof jacket on as a safety factor

I thought I had seen this before, the stunt was actually in December but she has only just been sentenced now.

Well apparently "Perez told investigators Ruiz had convinced her to participate by showing her other books he had shot where the bullet did not go through to the other side."

Ah sorry about that, I should have done a search. Didn't see it on the front page and this was news posted today.

I've seen this quite a bit on shooting channels actually - where penetration is hugely different depending on how the object is supported and if it is against another surface or not, etc. the penetration difference from being propped up against a backstop for instance versus being held infront of a person could be substantial.

A common one is shooting a load of ceramic tiles where having them one in front of the other with a couple of centimetres between each one will produce very different results in some cases compared to if they are all touching each other in a solid cluster.

EDIT: Regardless it is one of the dumbest things you could possibly do even if you were confident it should stop it from actually testing the exact same scenario.

a 180-day jail term, alternating between 10 days in jail and 10 days out for the first six months, amounting to 90 days behind bars.

The judge said the remaining 90 days could be served in home confinement.

Seems a novel way to fulfil a jail sentence.

I saw this quite a while ago I facepalmed right now as hard as I did back then rereading it....

Hoping a book would stop a desert eagle.... lol

That book didn't stop that bullet from that gun.

But done in a more intelligent way you can set it up so the bullet does run out of energy and doesn't pass through.
