Fatherio

The FAQ on the Facebook group.

1. WHAT IS FATHER.IO?
It is a massive multiplayer First Person Shooter that you play in real life.

2. WHAT IS THE “363R” TRIGGER?
It is a small and powerful device which, thanks to a universal mechanism of adjustable holders, can be assembled onto your smartphone, enabling you to play FATHER.IO, shoot your enemies from up to a distance of 50 metres (164.5 feet), from all directions, and with an accurate hit box.

3. WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY FATHER.IO WITHOUT THE TRIGGER?
Yes, you will be able to play without the Trigger. Using the web-app and/or the mobile-app, you will still be able to complete quests, conquer new territories, and help your faction. However, the Trigger is what allows you to access the First Person Shooter mode.

4. WHY WON’T YOU LAUNCH IMMEDIATELY?
We are an indie game and hardware company. We have already developed the prototypes of the Trigger, and a playable demo of the game. All the features you see in the video have already been developed. In order to create and manufacture the hardware in full-scale and expand the game, we will launch a preorder campaign (crowdfunding) to cover the necessary costs to complete the development.

5. WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO ORDER THE TRIGGER?
The device will be available for preorder in a few weeks, and will be manufactured should the crowdfunding campaign be successful.

6. WHEN WILL THE GAME BE AVAILABLE?
The game as well will be available after the crowdfunding campaign. This way, you will be able to start conquering territories in your city and organise factions even before you receive the Trigger.

7. HOW MUCH WILL THE TRIGGER COST?
The price will be confidential information for a few more weeks. In the mean time we can tell you that we will offer you a discount for each friend you introduce who buys the hardware. With just a few friends you may even have it for free!

8. WHAT TYPES OF SMARTPHONE WILL IT BE AVAILABLE FOR?
Initially, the game will be available for Android 4.3+ and iOS smartphones. Should we receive enough demand during the crowdfunding campaign, we may extend the development to Windows 8 and Android < 4.3

9. WILL I BE ABLE TO RECORD MY GAME SESSIONS?
Yes, you will be able to record your games in real time. At the moment it is possible to record videos at a quality of 480p, but in the next versions the resolution will increase to 720 HD.

10. WILL THIS BE A PAY4WIN GAME?
No, this game will never be pay4win. The pay for win model unbalances the gameplay and destroy the community. IT’S A PROMISE!

11. DOES THIS GAME REQUIRE MORE THAN ONE PLAYER?
No, in the single player mode you can complete a series of geolocalized tasks.

The war-sim commander mode can be also played by browser.

A truly dire idea.

I had an idea to do so ething like this but the issues quickly mounted.
Plus smart phones are not quite there computationally as I wanted some more advanced animated reality.

I just like the idea of making a computer game that instead of using a virtual world and AI bots used the real world and real people with some super imposed graphics and game play.

So it's a load of Metro Sexual's running round playing cowboy's and Indians in a high street near you. Sounds great!

Until they run into you, bounce off you, their phone breaks and they blame you for it... as if we need more people being distracted on their phones around town.

Daddario?

cant wait for this, but how long is it until some loon plays with a real gun, walking around targeting with his smartphone, then popping a cap in their ***

or what about accessories like the Wii racing wheel? get a gun like attachment for greater realism, and a take down by armed cops?

It looks lioke the sort of thing that would get you shot if you tried it in Texas.

It looks like the sort of thing that might have you surrounded by armed police if you tried it in central London.

Is your name Jack Thompson by any chance?

I'm torn between thinking this idea is very cool and very sad :p

I think it's a case of:

Theory: Cool
Reality: Sad

However, I could see this working a lot better with something like Google Glass, rather than having to run around with your smartphone out...
