Just a daft question, but there a thousands of xbox360's with 3 red lights etc on the bay.

Are they repairable (Self repair), or whats the point in selling them?

I wondered about buying a bunch of RROD 360's and profiling them to stick them through our reflow oven, reflowing the BGA's, if not stick under the infa red and doing it that way. :)

I've never tried, but i have read that applying some better thermal paste can help

As far as im aware, the towel thing is a temp fix.

Can't you stick the mainboard in the oven 250 degrees for 3 mins and then take it out and let it cool? Rejoins the solder doesn't it?

I think most of the broken ones for sale have been opened and modded.. hence invalidating the warranty, although I'm not sure consumer law wouldn't protect you on that once, since your 'modding' would not have caused the failure..

If MS seal is still intact and console is not registered with MS before then abviously you can send it to MS for repair.
I bought one 2 weeks ago from bay for £35(just a console nothing else).I was lucky becasue that xbox360 never been registered with MS before so i send it MS got it back repaired yesterday all fixed.
