Faulty 7970?

Hi,

Just installed a 7970 into a new PC. All running stock.

Go to run 3dmark or Windows Experience checker and the system turns off and then reboots.

I have the 8pin and the 6pin Power for the GPU connected.

Is it possible the GPU faulty?

THe PSU is an Antec 750

It's a brand new PC.

I don't have another card to try

What's the latest 7970 driver? When i go to their site and select their driver the page doesn;t load.

It does need the 8 pin and 6 pin adaptors right?

Check the temps while running the tests.

Also is there dust in the PC?

Will you also add specs?

Temps go up to 59c when doing the experience test then it turns off and reboots.

Looks like the card is at fault. The onboard GPU works fine.

Just an update for you guys.

The GPU was replaced and the problem is still happening.

I guess the next thing is to get the PSU replaced and update the BIOS if there's an update for the ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z Gen 3

Yes, there's DEFINITELY updates for that motherboard - and that board really needed BIOS updates - it's crap with the default sucker.

Tried to find an update but couldn't see any new bios versions.

Current BIOS version running 0706 (08162011)

Looks like it must be a software issue. Can't imagine that 2 cards would fail in the same way.

It's the Micro ATX version.

It's not actually my machine, but i'm trying to help them fix it. They checked the BIOS last night. I'll get him to recheck.

It's a Corsair so should be good enough. It's gonna be on the limit so we'll only be able to connect the HD, 24pin, 8pin and the GPU.

Did you try removing any overclock on other parts?

If you where GPU bottlenecked before the upgrade, then after it the CPU would be put under more stress in 3D applications and the overclock might not be stable any more.

The system is completely stock.

The machine functions fine when using the onboard mobo video port. So it has to be related to power issues with the GPU.

Just an update on the situation. Looks like the Corsair 450 watt psu has been working a treat this weekend.

We'll wait to hear the latest from Slugwash.
