hi

i have a main pc running a 60 gig agility 3 SSD for windows and 1tb for storage - sata 3 normal drive.

i have a am3+ gigabyte mobo with a FX4100 processor and 8 gig of corsair ram.

when i select AHCI mode in bios, it will not get past the windows start screen without crashing. select ide and fine, starts and runs fine. not sure whats happening there.

2nd 120 gig agility 3. not sure if its faulty on a 2nd machine. random crashes in windows and seems to take ages loading windows initially - the bit when the bios goes and it says loading operating system..........
on the first system, it flashes up, goes and loads windows.
on the 2nd 120 gig drive it comes up and then seems to load............................................................. - this takes about 30 seconds to a minute - then boot into windows and then randomly crashes. i ran sandbox to update firmware which failed, probably due to ahci mode not working. smart data showed this:

is this a faulty drive?

the first(60 gig ssd) is fine. just not when ahci is selected in bios.

i think when i installed windows 7 home prem it was ide. is that why it won;t work? however, that wouldn't cause random crashes would it?
