Hi My e6600 is being very flaky. It will boot from cold at standard setting but not reboot and I suspect the CPU is faulty.

So is it better to send it back under the Distance selling regs (Not to OCuK) or should I just return as faulty etc?

I need the replacement asap and I have untill Tuesday morning to decide.

Also am I right in thinking that DSR still applies as long as I send the CPU back in the original packing and good condition even though its been opened? I fancy that option as its likley to be quicker than waiting for them to test it and I'll just get another cpu from here,

I suspect either your Board or its BIOS is either flakey/faulty or some BIOS setting needs to be changed. Have you tried another cpu to verify?

Unfortunatly no as I only have this and the old AMD Opty.

I suppose I could try the latest beta Bios for the P5W DH.

Still would like some advice on the DSR point though guys just in case.

It could be a million things to be honest. As I understand it, once you have used an item it cannot then be returned under the DSR. So you're down to returning it as faulty.

If you return it as faulty, then I can't see why they wouldn't replace it, although there is a thread on here from a while back about a guy who RMA'd a CPU to OcUK and they just tested it so that it booted into the BIOS screen. The CPU actually had a faulty core so they didn't pick it up. OcUK charged him a test fee and sent it back to him. He then sent it to Intel who tested it properly and sent him a new one. I think OcUK did refund his test fee.

The issue you are talking about could also be due to thr motherboard being faulty. There are several motherboards that have known warm-boot and cold-boot issues including the Gigabyte DS3/DS4, ASUS P5B and P5N-E SLi.

Most are fixable by disabling a JMicron SATA controller or flashing to a revised BIOS.

Just to update, Seems like ATI Cat 7.3's cause some major probs booting into windows. So I have reverted to 7.2 and alls appearing to be ok.

Buy your e6600.
