Faulty GPU ?

A bit of history - was happily running nvidia gpu for a number of years (2080 and later 3080) but decided to 'upgrade' to 6800xt.

Moved to current GPU 5 months ago and all was fine until a couple of weeks ago when I hit problems (e.g. when trying to watch a youtube video in full screen it sometimes would go black screen and , occasionally, sound was there but no picture for a second or 2 and when I looked to revert to smaller picture it would go black screen for a few seconds) - as I had recently (that week) updated the gpu driver and Razer had auto updated its software I decided to go back to the previous gpu driver and (after longwinded correspondence with Razer (awful!)) I bought a new mouse and got rid of all the Razer software.

All appeared in order - and to mention no game issues up to this point.

I decided that I wanted a larger ssd so deleted the games installed on my 'games' drive (steam) - installed a new 2gb ssd and proceeded to download about 750 gb of steam games to the new drive.

Began to get black screens again - not every time but every now and then; again when watching you tube/iplayer in full screen and then trying to make it reduce.

Decided that it was best to give it time to settle and after a couple of days all seemed ok BUT intermittently the black screen problem would arise.

Decided to play last of us part one - all ok when suddenly it went back to desktop and the game advised I had a gpu problem.

All ok for 24 hrs but when playing last of us today it kicked me out of the game and said it was caused by a gpu crash.

It has not suffered the black screen glitch today.

Faulty gpu?

Am running Amd 5900x cpu + as rock 6800xt phantom gpu on a Asus Rog Strix x570-e board ( with 32gb ram)

Thoughts appreciated :)

Contacted support at Ocuk who ,having listened to the symptoms, suggested that my problem might be corrupted windows files !

Will repair /install in the next few days and advise as to results.

Am hopeful !!

I have had additional issues over the past few weeks (soundcard once or twice and icue software disappearing for no reason) which makes me believe that it is a windows issue/issues.

Will see what effect the repair/install has and report back.

I would be surprised if the gpu is faulty but we shall see.

yeah, maybe use something like Display Driver Uninstaller to make sure you do a clean install

Have noticed that over past few days things seem a little better (can live with glitches).

Still decided to follow advise from here and DDU'd the drivers - no real change as far as I can tell.

Will try clean reinstall etc at weekend when ,hopefully, all will be sorted.

All appears normal ! - glitches have disappeared.

Have done nothing apart from changing refresh rate to 144hz (it had reverted to 60hz) which I would not have thought would have cured anything.

Seems very strange to me but it's working so will not do windows repair/reinstall yet. Fingers crossed !!!!

Maybe under the 60fps capped lighter loads the card was boosting higher which caused some instability.
