Faulty GTX 580? Help plz :)

Recently i just bought a new Motherboard,

a core i7 1366.

also a GTX 580 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-020-PN

and 6gb of ram.

the power supply im using is a Arctic Power 700w, i used this to power my last card (GTX 260) for 2 years.

When i built my machine i realised my psu didnt have an 8 pin for my pci-express card so i bought a 6 pin to 8 pin converter. when i turn my pc on all i get is a blank screen with a flashing monitor power button. (When i put my gtx 260 back into the machine it works fine, the new cpu and ram work like a charm) but when i put the 580 in, the power button just flashes on the monitor and there is no display "at all" I have tried using another monitor but also no display. i have tried using the other dvi socket but still no display. i have also tried putting the card into my dads computer and the same problem persists, all though there was a slight difference. when i put it in my dads machine the 580's fan powered on REALLY LOUD, but it only did that once. the 580 always powers on normally but there is just no display on the screen at all. I am using my old gtx 260 for now with all of my other new componants (i7, new ram and motherboard) what do you think? faulty gtx 580?

Cack PSU. Get a new 700/750w decent brand PSU such as a corsair, XFX, OCZ or Antec. That will likely fix the problem, even if it doesn't and you have to RMA the card you still elimiate the possibilty of your current ****** PSU blowing up and taking other componants with it.

My dad is using a really good 750watt psu though. and same problem on his.

What PSU is he using? If it really is quality then it does sound like a dud card.

Shouldnt that be able to power a gtx 580 with no problem? the main thing is, if its able to power the card then it should atleast post.

That PSU does sound okay. Is there another PC you can try it on such as a friends just as a final check?

Hmm dont think so, cant see any. but the card definatley powers ON, as the fans move etc just no display.

Any other suggestions/opinions you can give me? anyone?

How are you plugging it into the monitor, try a different slot, reseat the Power.

would still suggest getting a new psu(650-750w) even if it turns out the 580 is faulty, don't want it blowing and taking your pc with it.

btw why'd you go 'old tech' withe sandy bridge about?

I would suggest trying an alternative 6pin to 8pin adaptor just in case.

I seriously doubt Arctic Power 700W PSU would be good enough for the GTX580. I have one myself (bought back in the "didn't know better about generic PSU is a ticking time bomb days"), which is now sitting in an old case together with a old motherboard which I'm now not using.

That PSU doesn't even come with a native PCI-E connector, but only comes with a single molex to 6-pin adapter, so don't expect it to be good enough for the GTX580.

As for your dad's PSU...it is not a well-known brand, so don't think we can be sure if it would fall short for the GTX580.

It may not be a known brand, but looking at the specs of the PSU it should definatley be capable of making it work.
