Hi,

My brother has the Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and has recently purchased 1 stick of DDR 333 / PC2700 1GB memory.

We put it into his machine which currently holds 1 stick of 512mb DDR 333 / PC2700 memory making 1.5gb. However the computer will not boot past the send part of the post screen, it just restarts. If i try the 1gb ram on its own in any of the 3 memory banks the same happens, but the old 512 (on its own) works fine.

So its obviously down to this new stick of memory (brand new).

Is it faulty or is there a compatibility issues somewhere which I have over-looked?

Thanks

Was going to say compatibility but it sounds like it could be faulty, might be best to try it in another machine if possible?

Does it show the amount of installed ram and have you updated the bios?

I have not updated the bios.. but it does say it will take 3 GB and as there is 3 slots it obviously accepts 1GB sticks so surly this should work.

Anywho - I have just run a memory test on the new stick which came up a bit dodgy.. considering it looks like it only found 595mb etc..

See this link for a pic i took - (notice the errors) ...

Ran the same test on the 512 stick and it came back with 0 errors after the first pass.
